Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

is it too early to blame block voting ?

No block voting as only partaking countries could vote.

    Ire exit

Such a pity. I really think he did very well and his song was much better than some of the songs that got though. I'm glad Belgium got through even though it's a clear copy of a few other songs.

The thing is purely geography/political. We have one close neighbour...We also have very different tastes musically and culturally.

It's not Bloc voting we were awful

Somebody on the RTE team needs to keep an eye on Marty tonight, he's never sounded so downbeat.

Poland and Latvia getting through was poor form.

    My picks.

    Australia
    Ireland
    Israel
    Belarus
    Slovenia
    Bulgaria
    Denmark
    Norway
    Georgia
    Belgium

Got 7/10 on Tuesday, I expect to do significantly worse tonight because I felt this was a very poor selection of songs overall.

    - Latvia
    -- Georgia
    -- Bulgaria
    -- Australia
    - Ukraine
    - Serbia
    - Poland
    -- Israel
    - Lithuania
    -- Belgium

    5/10 not bad.

Of my picks that didn't go through, Denmark are the only ones I'll miss out on seeing Saturday.

I don't know what the hell Marty is on about. Nicky's performance was crap tonight. He had no conviction in his vocals, staging was poor and all in all it was just meh.

Shut up Marty, Belgium, Australia, Israel and others got through - they're not in Eastern Europe. We sent someone who couldn't sing very well to a song contest, and we've done that repeatedly over the past few years.

    But...but...no Norway!

How the fcuk did Georgia get through.

A joke of a competition. Block voting alive and well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,985 ✭✭✭ebbsy

We still in this country don't get the idea that half the winning formula is a good gimmick up on the stage to attract interest, I propose next year we send out 3 finest cailíns fitted with low cut Aran jumpers.

Or a bearded lady in a wheelchair.

Not surprised - thought the Irish act was very static and our man about 10 years too old.

I honestly believe both Nicky and RTE thought Ireland were a shoe-in for the final, simply because he used to be in Westlife.

Indeed. All the former Soviet republics vote strongly for eachother, the song doesn't come into it.

we didn't deserve to go through. Decent performance but the voice was not there. At all.

Of which only 3 could vote, Ukraine, Lithiuania and Belarus.

This block voting is brought up every year but it's not always true.

Send a good act and song then you'll do well.

Look at how Sweden won it.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,606 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

Australia blows away the "block voting" argument. The reality is if you have a decent gimmick, you can get through.

I actually liked the song, thought it was ok. But ultimately, we need a better production, in terms of what's happening round the singer. Sending a decent singer with a decent song isn't good enough. RTE put every little backing behind the acts they send :(

I'd say Byrne is devastated, he will be comparing it to being knocked out of the champions leagues qualifiers against a LOI team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Spare us the block voting moaning.

We were no use. The bookies didn't give us a prayer before the contest and his performance on the night was out of tune.

RTE don't want us to do well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,812 ✭✭✭thelad95

****e song from a washed up has been, the staging, vocals, performance was nowhere near the standard required.

I'd put good money on RTE sending Bonnie Ryan over next year.

Nicky looked very dull indeed in terms of his dress.

Anyway she's at me again here to tell the "internet people" to vote for Bulgaria

Thought Slovenia should have got another run on Saturday. My prediction is Germany or Belgium to win.
