Have to be honest, in recent times, the only winning song I can recall is Lordi. Chooooon.

Don't understand how that televoting thing worked at all! OK they added all the countries votes together- but how were they allocated. 300k people vote for Ukraine and they get 300 votes? Can't find it on the Eurovision website.

1 I'll give you. Ukraine scored highly on both, she could sing, had an proper song, and sang in her native tongue.

    Boom!!!!

ts like the juries, each country awards 12,10,8,7...1 and those votes from all 42 are added together.

Well folks, it's been fun! I've eaten my bodyweight in junk food, so I'm off for a nice long sleep.

I think I'll listen to the winner to speed up my falling asleep. :pac:

Winner aside, this has been a really good year IMO. Lots of decent songs, excellent staging and hosting throughout, great interval acts (Justin excepted). Really enjoyable.

And of course, this thread has been great craic, so thank y'all. None of my housemates ended up staying around tonight, so ye were great company. :)

No, it was a tally of all 42 voting nations..... Just allocated in one go.

That the Ukraine song was a Crimea gainst music.

Biggest Australian robbery since Ned Kelly, worst Australian disaster involving the Ukraine since flight MH17 was shot down a couple of years ago.

The presenters were easily the funniest two people I've seen on TV, their song at the start of the semi final was incredible. Such good banter.

    Tonight taught us 3 things..

    Everyone hates Russia
    Everyone feels sorry for Ukraine
    The Polish diaspora is patriotic

Tonight is defo the way Eurovision should evolve, more emphasis on laughing at itself, Eurovision 1994 and Riverdance and all is nice, and it should contain aspects of the different Euro cultures but it shouldn't take itself too seriously either.

    well spotted lol

Also spotted by my fella: two guys pashing in the background at one stage. They were really going for it. I love Eurovision! :D

Our household were going for Bulgaria or Belgium, both catchy, entertaining and well performed (although Belgium much better as semis), but I think the Ukraine vote is fair actually.

She had the best voice of them all, simple as. As a singer, she was the best, look at how she performed even with the emotion of winning. The song was pleasant, it had meaning and she sang like she meant it, the visuals were good.

    She deserves the win.

Australia was alright but possibly too polished for Eurovision, didn't like it very much.

Maybe send Nikki Byrne to Ukraine next year singing " A nation once again" as Gaeilge ? Well if the recipe worked for Ukraine this time ?

I found it pretty annoying how they fast forwarded through the jury/presenters chat section so there would be lot's of time for silent pauses during the final section

Ukraine: 2nd with juries. Australia 1st
Ukraine: 2nd with televoters. Russia 1st.
    Ukraine 1st.

    I don't see the problem.

Well not as mournfully perhaps , but sure it's meant to be light entertainment after all - give me Conchita or Lordi any day !

So we came 15th in our semi-final: http://www.eurovision.tv/page/history/by-year/contest?event=2133#Scoreboard

As well as the ten countries that qualified, we also scored lower than Macedonia, Belarus, Norway and Slovenia.
In other words, we didn't even come anywhere close.

But we can at least point and laugh at Albania, Denmark and Switzerland! :p

That was a bit scary the Polish bit alright, let's hope it's not a taste of things to come.

I liked the new system, how everything could change despite the jury's vote, and the tension with it. But yeah, who lives where has the potential to make it a disaster sometime.

  • Registered Users Posts: 312 ✭✭JuanJose

So there we have it. If only I'll be ever able to figure 'it' out!

New voting system really ratchets up the tension. Just hope it's legit & transparent. Like many, I thought the Aussies had it wrapped up at the halfway point. I guess the twist proves that, in Eurovision, we may expect the unexpected!

Good work on this thread, folks. Adds greatly to the craic.

    'Til next time!

The only song that's still rattling around my head after that long night is Polands 'What Colour is your Life' (whatever a question like that is supposed to mean).

Maybe it's because it's very, very like part of Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive'

Maybe that helped them to get such a big televote and not just the diaspora thing?
