So we came 15th in our semi-final: http://www.eurovision.tv/page/history/by-year/contest?event=2133#Scoreboard

As well as the ten countries that qualified, we also scored lower than Macedonia, Belarus, Norway and Slovenia.
In other words, we didn't even come anywhere close.

But we can at least point and laugh at Albania, Denmark and Switzerland! :p

Not just 15th but the raw score was atrocious.

Block vote for them as Russia planted loyal supporters in each. They all still mark their mark by voting for the Motherland in what has become this farce of a contest. But nice to see the Ukraine put them in their place

    weak song
    weak singer
    weak staging

Ireland got exactly what they deserved this year

We need to cast the net wider. The talent is out there, it needs to be found.

Hahaha watch the song from the semi final, the parody song, they bring that up how when they all vote for each other its a joke but when Denmark gives Sweden 12 points its 'in good taste'

Thanks, was looking for the scoreboard yesterday and couldn't find it!

It was released just after the final tonight afaik. I only saw it because someone mentioned it on Twitter.

The full semi-final breakdown is always kept from being released until after the final, which makes sense I guess: it would be somewhat of a buzz kill seeing your country perform in the final if you knew that they had just finished 10th in their semi.

Here are the audience votes from Russia & Ukraine from Eurovision 2016 showing how they were awarded points.

These points are taken from the official Eurovision Song Contest App on Windows.

    Poland 8pts
    Armenia 7pts
    Georgia 6pts
    Latvia 5pts
    Austrailia 4pts
    Lithuania 3pts
    Bulgaria 2pts
    Sweden 1pt

    Russia's votes

    Armenia 12pts
Ukraine 10pts (And I thought we could have been dreaming just there but there we go)
    Austria 8pts
    Cyprus 7pts
    Azerbaijan 6pts
    Poland 5pts
    Austrailia 4pts
    France 3pts
    Sweden 2pts

Nicky's song wasn't bad, it just wasn't powerful enough, and he didn't have the power to inject into it.

We need a celticky + pop/dance/club combination, that starts eerie then bursts into major power. The productions on all the top songs were major pop productions type, Nicky's number wasn't quite up to that standard.

It baffles me it hasn't happened yet.

Just rename the thing the ex pat factor.
The only reason anyone phones up and votes in this thing is do something for their country.
The UK public vote top 3 was Lithuania, Poland, Bulgaria.

Not many Bulgarians in Britain tbf, I think they just really liked the song :)

Pretty fair result really. I don't think Macedonia should have finished that high, and I'd put Denmark a place above us.

The way people go on in Ireland you'd swear the Eurovision is what they depict it as in Father Ted, it has a massive audience and it should be an avenue whereby some act in what you describe wants to take part. Its changed so much even in the last 10 years, compare it to the year of Mickey Joe Hart.

    Yeah because that was crap.

There's enough talent to come up with the celticky/pop right combination. It's just not being supported or chosen, I don't know how the selection process went this year.

It seems to be in the process of being reborn alright. I'm French (living here 20 years !) and ever other year there'd be zero mention of the Eurovision on social media, it was like French people would be sniggering if you even mentioned it, and it wasn't even shown on television.

It must have been shown this year as my social media French pages all mentioned it !

I think you're right, and maybe now that it's regaining interest and its own niche, it might attract attention from better producers. Or support for better producers. And attention from better performers too.

Not just 15th but the raw score was atrocious.

Indeed, he wasn't in the top ten in either the televote or the jury vote. Only Albania and Denmark scored lower with the juries than he did.
He did slightly better in the televote, even managing to beat Israel (which is an entry I never rated but the juries loved for some reason), but he still only came 14th.

Last year, Molly Sterling was in the top ten with the juries but did very poorly in the televote* while in 2014 Kasey Smith and Can Linn made the top ten in the televote but was marked down by the juries**.

So by any measure, this is Ireland's worst Eurovision performance since Dustin! :pac:

*undeservedly so, imo; I thought she was the best entry Ireland sent in a long long time. Sadly, it just didn't resonate with enough voters on the night.
**admittedly, this was not entirely surprising; the song itself wasn't too bad but the less than stellar live vocal and utterly apalling staging just killed its chances.

    Winning song lyrics.

    When strangers are coming
    They come to your house
    They kill you all
    And say
    We’re not guilty
    Not guilty

    Where is your mind?
    Humanity cries
    You think you are gods
    But everyone dies
    Don’t swallow my soul
    Our souls

    Yasligima toyalmadim
    Men bu yerde yasalmadim
    Yasligima toyalmadim
    Men bu yerde yasalmadim

    We could build a future
    Where people are free
    To live and love
    The happiest time

    Where is your heart?
    Humanity rise
    You think you are gods
    But everyone dies
    Don’t swallow my soul
    Our souls

    Yasligima toyalmadim
    Men bu yerde yasalmadim
    Yasligima toyalmadim
    Men bu yerde yasalmadim

    The Ukrainian bit is:
I couldn’t spend my youth there
Because you took away my peace
I couldn’t spend my youth there
Because you took away my peace

Well looks like the Boyzone thing worked

we got a lot more points from televoting than from 15 points from 20 juries.
We got 31 points from televoting
    Australia won with 330 points.
But we can at least point and laugh at Albania, Denmark and Switzerland!
Albania beat us on televoting, Switzerland beat us on the Jury vote. Everybody in the first Semi beat us on Jury or televoting points too except Estonia.

So we can only look down on Estonia and Denmark. And not by much as we didn't score much higher and they were just nondescript songs rather than spectacularly bad ones. Either could have possibly beaten us with a gimmick or costume or better choreography or performance on the night.

Georgia, for a start, wasn't even a song. It was just noise!
