Afaik there was a disagreement over the terms so the club ended negotiations temporarily. The managerial change probably delayed the club coming back to it.

By the sounds of it, LFC were lowballing with an offer and he was asking for a little more than he deserved given how little he had played at the time.

It's the same policy that led to Brad Smith being technically without a club for a few months before we re-signed him.
