    Hi All -

We live in a 'protected' house.

There are 4 main windows - they are currently 30 yr old PVC and there is zero insulation.

I believe to replace we need to put back in something resembling originals.

Has anyone any experience in doing so and could give a ballpark fop 4 x sash windows please? Dimensions are roughly 112.5 cm x 225 cm for each.

Also, anyone know if there are any grants available?

Also, anyone know if we need to go through any process to ensure that they are 'acceptable' in terms of the 'protected' status?

    Cheers,

    BJ

If your house is a Protected Structure, you should contact your local planning department (the conservation officer in the planning department) for advice.

Your intentions sound good, but, you may need planning permission to change the windows. Generally, this would be a decision of the conservation officer, so worth trying to speak to him/her. They may also be able to recommend suitable companies to make new windows.

The conservation officer would also be able to advise on grants...there are grants for conservation works, to Protected Structures, but funds available are so tight/small, that I would not hold my breath hoping for a grant!
