Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I reckon this is as far as we'll go in the Europa League now. We'd have been beaten against a decent team tonight.

    We might draw Midjyttland.

Dominated, it just got scary due to fact we maybe should have been 2 up .
It will come. Would not surprise me to see a Man City or Chelsea type performance as some stage in this competition.
Hopefully we win next round over 1 game.

One of those games where you see the first half and you've got enough endeavor and quality on show where you're thinking "it'll come" but it never really does and instead, halfway through the 2nd half, you're wondering why your forward line are jizzing themselves like 15 year old boys at the slightest bit of excitement around the box.

Some did quite well - Sakho, Lucas (backpass notwithstanding), Milner and I thought Can was excellent (he really benefits from having enough time between games).
Thought Coutinho, Sturridge, Moreno and Hendo were poor enough.

Nothing too terrible but we continue to flounder a bit despite pretty much having a full team available.

There's still too little direct threat. Sturridge showed a bit more on the ball tonight, but he has a way to go before we see him really taking people on.
Firmino looks like a player who's always going to blow hot and cold.

We're still short another direct threat and a striker who's fit.

Job done and move on. The only thing that deserves stick are Milners corners and Henderson not scoring plus maybe bombing on a bit too much in the last 15 mins.

Made hard work of that which is no surprise but it's a couple of clean sheets on the bounce and there was some good play there. Badly need a player who's good at set pieces.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,688 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Made hard work of that. Would have been nice to cruise it 2 or 3-0 and set us up for Sunday. I really hope we get a cup final performance from our players, we really need them to step up from tonight

Better if United go through to help the English coefficient.

If were to have a shot at CL it'll be from that 4th spot.

No chance of 4th this year anymore really.

I'd be quite ok with the hilarity of Utd going out, if Fiorentina and Napoli go out too, 2 english clubs left in, with only one Italian :)

<edit> holy ****, speak of the devil! On another note, lets go buy Sisto!

oh yeah, misunderstood, would totally agree with that. It's vital alright that we keep that English 4th spot.

I agree. Benetke must be on the blower to his agent sussing out what options he has. If he has a good European Cup, which is entirely possible with Belgium playing a game which suits him, we might get a good bit of the transfer fee back but the likelyhood is we'll be looking at another Andy Carroll situation i.e. someone will take him on loan with an option to buy for 50% of what we paid and we might just have to suck it up or he'll end up hanging around next season and be sold/loaned in January on even worse terms.

Pity because in a team playing to his strengths he scores goals, he did so for Villa FFS!!!

I don't think they should be criticised for attacking late in the game.

We have been unable to defend a lead for quite some time and needed a second to see out the game.

If FCA scored late in the game after we had failed to shut up shot, we would have been out.

On a plus note, I have adopted Augsburg as my German team. I hope they do well for the rest of this season.

Henderson really does need to be taken out of the team, presumably Kolo will be in for the League Cup final and Lucas as the deepest midfielder.

    Didn't mean this year.

I'm speaking about CL coefficient places going forward with the English teams losing the fourth spot to Italy.

The longer all the English teams stay in Europe the better as if the PL loose the fourth spot it gets even harder for us to qualify for the CL.

Great results for our coefficient tonight anyway - 3 English teams left, only 1 Italian team.

    Current so far this season

    2 Germany 6/7 89.000 12.714
    3 Russia 3/5 56.500 11.300
    4 England 6/8 87.000 10.875
    5 Italy 5/6 64.000 10.666

I don't think Germany are in trouble. England are in more trouble as their stronger seasons are dropping off being counted while Germany have fairly consistent high ratings due to Bayern and the likes of Dortmund and Schalke doing ok. England had a few dodgy seasons the last few, but if English teams do well in the EL this season (2 into the QF's, 1 to the semi) and City can get to the semi of the CL for example, then they should be ok unless Juve can do a repeat of last year despite their first leg vs Bayern, and Lazio get to the final of the EL.

Kolo Toure will face brother Yaya when his Liverpool side takes on Manchester City in Sunday's League Cup final at Wembley, and the Reds defender says he would "take him out, big time" if his younger sibling was through on goal.

The big time just cracked me up. Stereotypically hilarious.

Kolo is an absolute character. Great to have around the club.

When Kolo meets Yaya in battle it be the loudest moment of the final apart from the final whistle I suspect!
