Really glad Sturridge and Origi looked so good tonight.

Disappointing since we played as well as West Ham, but we should have scored and killed the game earlier.

Sturridge will be fcked again in 2 weeks, dont do it to urselfs lads.

Benteke looks like a player who is only going through the motions at this stage. Honestly, I would bench him for the rest of the year. His heart is clearly not in it; 100% he will be gone by the start of next season.

Cant argue with this.......unfortunately......just not our night...

Valencia was hitting the turf under the slightest contact all night and ref fell for it every single time.

Decent performance overall. Had more than enough chances to win the game but you have to take them. How many one on ones has Benteke missed now this season? Must be at least 5.

Didn't think he played too badly in general play but if you're a striker and you are missing chances you're going to get stick.

Hopefully with Origi and Sturridge coming back and Firmino playing well we wont have to endure any more of Benteke for a while, maybe harsh but just tired of watching him struggle through games....

Even from his cameo, the difference Sturridge makes is depressing, thinking what a fully fit Sturridge could do for us.

plus the movement of Firmino and Coutinho pulling the strings. Should be beautiful.

I knew he wouldnt score in the 1 on 1 ,ref blowing for every fall by a hammers player was worse then them diving imo, ruined what was a encouraging performance by a lit of inexperienced players

With a deadball so late in the game.. why doesn't someone mark the post.

We're so **** at defending set plays, surly sticking someone on the post would be something to think about.

Did anyone expect a Benteke goal? Even with all his great chances? I certainly didn't, dont think anyone has faith in him scoring.

Didn't look like that to me.

A lot of his play was good outside the box.

It's just all irrelevant if you're a striker and you miss those kinds of chances.

Even the set up for his 1v1 was an example - what he can do with proper support and somone to play with.
He can do a good thing, and then make an absolute balls of the business end of the move. That's what he can do at the minute.

Still, he's been a proven finisher in the past, so hopefully he gets a few more chances alongside Sturridge or at least the likes of Origi, Coutinho and Ibe and the eventual shinned finish gives him the little trickle of confidence he desperately needs.

Mignolet , Ibe and Benteke sure as hell don't deserve to be getting games. Bar Firmino, even a half fit Couthino and Sturridge stand head and shoulders above everyone else in the squad.

On the plus side we might be edging closer to getting Sturridge, Coutinho and Firmino starting together for once.

He doesn't have faith in himself either.

People can talk until they are blue in the face about him suiting us etc etc......he's missing chances that are falling to him which has little to do with our style, easy chances, gifts almost and he somehow makes it harder than it should be every time.....Thats the easy part, the hard part is linking up in a new setup with a new manager etc etc and he's miles behind where he needs to be.

Some people said he had a good game, looking at him tonight, he often took the easy option pass back to Midfield, never busted himself getting forward, regularly found himself behind the play, took up awkward positions making it easy to defend against him, was never an option with a cross into the box, did not link up with Ibe or Coutinho, didn't try to beat his man when needed, the guy was poor. Coasted all game, done a few basic things decent but overall was poor.

A complete waste of money. 32m, absolutely crazy.

Rival fans are telling us Klopp isn't good enough, the club should probably sack him so.

At least we're in the final of the cup no one cares about.

Thought he did pretty well in general play to be honest.

But if you miss chances and you're a striker. Well that's what you are on the pitch for. To score one on ones against the keeper.

Benteke's general play was okay, for a striker. Nothing special at all. His attacking was horrendous. 8 shots, 4 on target, none of them threatening. Let's not forget numerous poor runs or situations where he didn't run at all.

Im more annoyed that we didn't use ward. Whats the point in recalling him and then not use him at all. Mind boggling

So get rid of him just because he missed a chance tonight?
    Good management that.
I thought he had his best game in a while for us as he got into better positions when Sturridge came on and linked up well.
He missed a good opportunity but that's definitely down to confidence, not ability.
Also remember he's not been getting many games which has affected him as well.

Yes, that's why he clearly held his head in his hands after missing his one on one chance.

Am I disappointed, Abso****inglutely! Was it a good performance, you bet. Given the starting line-up, it shows a good strength in depth. Lads like illori, Stewart, smith, trxiara, cavellera (or whatever) all got good game time and showed up well tonight against a seasoned outfit. The young lads tired as the game went on, but showed up well overall. Lucas did well overall but was too inclined to put his hands on the forwards back, and fell foul of the ref on numerous occasions, including for the last goal. He should have learned to keep his hands off.
Can't help think mignolet made a poor attempt for the last goal too....
Benteke.... Fluffed his chances but overall play was good, linked up well and never hid.

In fairness what a difference Sturridge made tonight. Just some many more options with him on the field. Defenders dont know will he shoot, pass or take them on. Please jesus and all the other lads up there he will keep fit.

Have to laugh if Klopp played a weakened team in the league other managers will complain and maybe get fined for it, play it in the FA cup and also get criticised how is he meant to bleed in new younger players who when given the chance have been better the some 1st team players

What does Klopp do with Benteke at this point?

Firmino offers a lot more at the moment, Origi/Sturridge coming back hopefully for a long period of time. Has he a future here?......if not we lose a lot on him, if he does then how do we get the best from him?

Personally, I'd have Firmino ahead of him if Sturridge isn't fit and I'm not sure if he'll ever be an asset if that turns out to be the case.

I was very happy again tonight with some of the youngsters.

Stewart had a very good game and played well against some very experienced/talented West Ham guys.

    Smith was solid again.

Also Ilori looked decent as did Flanagan.

I really would like to see the younger guys get a few more games between now and the end of the season.

The young lads should be featuring in more league matches because things are diabolical.

Pros: Courtinho played well and scored.
    Young lads got their chance.

    Cons: We lost.
Benteke cant score in a Brothel.

Looks like the League Cup Final is the only realistic chance of a trophy this season and if we lose seasons over.

Top class keeper would have saved the winner, no where near the top corner. Making himself small as usual.

Amazing how sharp Sturridge looked, then again when we're used to watching Benteke. His off sides aren't even close, usually yards in it. Did you see where he was for Texeria's effort? The man has zero awareness.

What more does Smith have to do to get a chance ahead of Moreno?

Great to see Coutinho back. Few games and he should be ready for the cup final.

Thought Origi did well when he came on. He was growing in confidence when he got injured and doesn't seem to have lost it.

Sturridge.... Not much to say apart from he is a class above if only it would last.

Great to see the youngsters and was impressed with Chiverella on his first start and as always Texeira looked handy.... There's a whiff of Alonso off him at times.

Lucas has been very impressive at CB. They should seriously think about giving him a run there.

I thought first he slipped when I saw it until the replay. He really should have his feet sorted out better though to be able to get to headers back across goal.

Golden generation of Belgian footballers and we end up with that pair of numpties.

Jesus are we back to writing Origi off? He was the next big thing before he got injured. To criticise a player who's that young and in his first game back from an injury, during a first season with the club in which he hasn't played that much... the guy looks a talent as far as i'm concerned. There was some flashes of nice play from him tonight but he also lost the ball a few times and had a really poor effort on goal. Thats a lack of sharpness imo.

Its modern football to over analyze everything but nobody played poorly out there today. We should have won the game, we didnt because we didn't take our chances. Benteke should and on form would have scored a few. He's not a rubbish striker he just has no confidence. Its naive to think the speculation thats constantly surrounding him and how he fits into the team would have no effect on him. In the long run I think we'll sell him for 25odd million in the summer but those saying he wasn't bothered... did you see the look on his face when he missed.. he looked completely gutted. Thats not the face of someone who doesn't care.

I said it in the match thread but i think he sometimes gets stick because he's not Luis. Well nobody but Luis is Luis. Nobody else is as good as he is and has the workrate. We're going to have to accept that we won't have another one of him.

And finally I hate Daniel Sturridge... he's so good. So annoyingly magnificently good at football. I hate him. :(

No howler from him this evening but Mignolet still managed to flap at a few crosses and corners. Kicking dodgy as usual.
