Yes i remember seeing Benners & Ballyroe post up on Facebook dismissing the headline!

The Rose Hotel was probably full ergo the Town was booked out...... :D

Ah yes, the Kerry's Eye festival mania. There could be 200 drunks lining Denny Street for midnight madness and still RECORD CROWDS OF HAPPY FAMILIES would be packing the entirety of Tralee apparently.

They're saying the crowds for the festival are way down as well this year......oh sorry, I'm a month early for that guaranteed post! ;)

Doubt that TBH they can only be up on previous years now that all the roses are in Tralee. There's double the family's of roses and escorts last year and this year so what ever about being on par with previous years I don't see that much of a drop off in numbers.

What's in the press is all media hype. Saying that the hotels are fully isn't going to stop people logging online or picking up the phone to check bookings, that kind of hype helps hotels as it pushes people to book rooms earlier in the year.

It's like every year you here there'll be huge demand for Munster final tickets and they expect them to be sold out in days. Most of the time you can still purchase a ticket on the morning of the match.

Just wondering, Fenit Lighthouse, there is a lovely post full of pictures on "this is Kerry" of the lighthouse, the poster obviously went over onto the island - there is even a WAW sign there - questions is can anyone go over to the lighthouse at any time? I always presumed it was closed off only to whoever maintains it, I've always wanted to visit the lighthouse.

It's closed off alright, but I went out there on a tour a few years ago. Not sure if they are still going, but they're advertised here http://www.fenitharbour.com/Lighthouse.html

Well worth a trip over, while it might be small it's a pretty interesting lighthouse.

I was wondering actually, did anything ever come of that controversy from last year where the roses were reportedly treated horrifically by organisers? I remember they turned off their review section on Facebook because of the complaints.

Was that to do with the regionals & it being shown on tv when they were told they weren't through?

Didn't hear anymore about it. A few families and roses got a little upset that they were recorded during the process. One or two threw the toys completely out of the cot, coincidently I think they also happened to be ones that didn't make it through to the telly. At the time RTÉ and rose of tralee had a statement out apologising if any of the roses felt mis treated by it. Seemed to blow over as quick as it started really again all media hype and there no such thing as bad press.

Haven't heard anything about a behind the scenes show this year so the process must me changed!!!

I'm not suprised really that they turned off the review section on the Facebook page the festival is a target for all types of morons, I tuned in last year when the square was up in a heap, outside of that obvious balls up and every local and and business giving there tuppence worth you had supporters of the fathers for justice ape on posting and I also saw animal rights people condemning the festival because the roses lunched in the greyhound track on the Sunday.

I personally prefer Spa Seafoods, but its been ages since we were there so not too sure how it compares anymore.

Damn it. Ate in oyster hall. Felt the salmon was frozen. Not much of a difference between the prices. Only bad call for the entire holiday.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,339 ✭✭✭phormium

Highly unlikely to be frozen, of all fish it can be readily got in any supermarket so absolutely no need to keep a stock of it in any restaurant these days. Far more likely for something like monk fish or turbot to be frozen as not as available and probably not as big a seller as salmon.

Any restaurant would have a pretty high turnover of salmon so couldn't see any reason to be freezing it. Maybe just badly cooked or not a great farmed variety, there is a big difference in quality between some of the stuff out there.

Well, then it was preheated in a microwave. I've done it a few times at home, where I've eaten the leftovers that the kids wouldn't eat the day before.

I'm not familiar with Oyster Hall. Is this a separate business to the Oyster Tavern? I tried googling but it seems to bring up a private residential property.

I'd say they mean the Oyster Tavern.

Got the name wrong. You were right.

That residence beings to herself's cousin. I'm permanently mixing them up.

I agree, and its great to see a Town centre business thriving like that seems to be.

I was just about to post the same thing! They are closing after the weekend! A nightclub is a hard thing to run these days. People don't want to pay in anymore, especially with late bars etc. And they wouldn't be making a lot on drink with most of them coming in tanked already and most likely smuggling in naggins!

Has anyone noticed how bad the road is passing the cbs school approaching fairies cross from town side? It's so uneven & has been like this for well over a year. I reported it via the fix your street website ages ago but still nothing has been done.

its ridiculous! I've figured out how to avoid it now by driving slightly closer to the path, but it shouldn't be left like that for as long as it has.

Why don't the taxis just put up a few signs that they are located beside shaws. It's only a little bit further down than the mall and much closer to where they were at the now abandoned rank by boots. They pretty much have exclusive use of that road. Is it realy so bad to make that the permanent main rank?
