    Hi,

I'm wondering how I go about changing over the name and billing type on our electric Ireland account?

Housemate has moved to another country, I have the mprn and gprn numbers and readings, the website says this needs to be done by the person named on the account but this is not possible?

    Thanks in advance

    Gavin

    Hi Gavin,

    Thanks for your message.

A name cannot be changed on an Electric Ireland account, as each account number is unique to one name (and any names they add on) at all times. An account can only be closed (and reopened later if necessary) and a new account opened by whomever is taking over payment of supply.

The website content you mention refers to when an account-holder is moving out - account closure can only be carried out by them.

However, you or another member of the household can open a new account. This will automatically close the previous account, and a final bill in their name will issue (for usage up to the point of the meter-reading you submit to open the new account).

New customers are required to pay a €300 security deposit (refunded after 14 months of cleared bills) if they do not set up direct debit.
If customers do set up direct debit, the €300 security deposit is not billed to them.

We would recommend contacting our Sales team to set up the new electricity and gas accounts. Sales can set up direct debit also (we cannot here on Social Media) and there is a 13% discount off electricity units and a 9% discount off gas units, plus a further 2% discount off each for having online billing instead of postal billing. Sales can be contacted on 1850 30 50 90 (their telephone lines are open until 8pm Monday to Friday, and until 6pm Saturdays).

Thanks for your interest in Electric Ireland.

    Kind regards,
    Una
