I was changing a broken light fitting today and I noticed that the outer insulation on one of the neutral cables is damaged and missing in spots. I have wrapped insulating tape around it for as far as I can see but I can't get enough out of the ceiling to do a proper job. The house is only ten years old and there is no rodent problem so I can only assume the damage was caused at the time the house was built, there was an attempt to drill a hole in the supporting beam close by so possibly damaged by a drill. Would it be OK to just get a length of cable sleeving to cover it, getting at it from the top would be a major job?
