Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm still in also, not that it matters when I'm being compared to someone that is giving you such poor advice.

My advice to you is to brush up on your comprehension skills, they are a very important part of the job you hope to be going into.

John currently has 18 years service, as do I.

You need to start communicating properly too, punctuation, proper spelling, etc. It will aid you during your training and your career. It is important to be precise and to get information across completely and properly. Unlike your posts here. Its advice, not an insult, I would take heed of it.

Having 20 years service does not mean he knows more, its what you have done that counts. To be honest, it sounds like he doesnt understand the DF at all.

Id be curious to know who he is, Im sure I know him. Anyway, if he is so knowledgeable (which he is obviously not) why are you not in training yet? And why have you not got all the answers?

  • Registered Users Posts: 104 ✭✭Fionn789

Dont bother travelling to Dublin to get answers. You wont get past the main gate.

All you people need to remember that the guys dealing with Recruitment have more than one job in the DF.

There is a constant changeover of staff due to postings, transfers, courses, overseas, leave, retirements, exercises and quadruple jobbing.

We dont have 50 people at the end of the phone waiting on your phone call, you are simply another job on a long list of other jobs that need to be done.

Not only this, the civilians in the Department of Defence and An Garda Siochana have to do their job in the recruitment process too. So, the DF have to wait for them to do their job before the DF can do theirs. They dont do them one at a time, it is in batches. So they will do a batch this week, a batch next week, a batch in a month, then send 5/6 batches the following month to another department for them to do their part of the process

There are a multitude of different stages your applications and offers need to go through. There is a lot going on in the background.

When you ring and get through, and are told to be patient or whatever, be patient. Your application may still be with another department waiting on someone else to do their job and is out of the DF's hands.

The DF also have to wait for the DoD to approve a date for a Recruit Platoon to start. They have to wait on confirmation of how many Recruits they can induct. Then the DF figure out what location need the Recruits or what location has enough training staff to facilitate a Recruit Platoon. Then a date can be set depending on DoD approval. Then you get an offer depending on whatever selection system they use.

Now, you fcukers would want to calm your tits. Dont start badgering the Recruitment staff and being hard men on a discussion site talking bollox.

You are frustrated, they acknowledge that. Its mostly out of the Recruitments staffs hands as they are the last to know dates. Thats why you wont always get a definitive answer.

If you are on a list, just wait out. Your time will come but winding each other up and threatening this and that here is futile.

If you really want an answer, talk to your local TD or submit a FOI request. Not an ideal way to potentially start your career but you will get an answer.

For those of you that do get in, lose the attitude or you wont last training.

    Best of luck.

All the information you gave me there I found out myself there the last two days. They df could have told me this and it would be grand but no I was left in the dark people have a right to know the status of a application I don't have a attitude I just want to get in the door

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 90 ✭✭Danoboy93

The reason guys you cant get through to athlone today or most barracks is theres a funeral all head officers are at the funeral and most of the staff.just.found out there

That post was pegged for general attention, not specifically to you.

They do not have time to explain every stage in the process and who all the stakeholders are to every caller....its not personal, its just not possible.

They cant always tell you what stage your application is at as they dont always have that information. Thats why you rarely get a detailed answer.

They are not there to hold your hand and reassure you. You are on a list, you will be called or you wont be called. You are not guaranteed an offer and you are not guaranteed a definate start date.

You, like everyone else are waiting until the DoD says 'take in Recruits'.

I know its frustrating but thats they way it is. However, I do hope you are not waiting much longer but wait you must.

There is an old saying in the DF - "We are just mushrooms"....why? Because we are kept in the dark and fed with sh1t.

    Hang in there.

You have to understand where we're coming from lad. I've nothing to prove and far from a self proclaimed "hard man" but when lads that have applied this year get a preference over lads that have put the graft in and waited this long then I think they deserve to get a bit emotional, albeit ringing up constantly or getting a bit vocal on this forum. Either way you know and I know that this wait has been unusually long so of course lads will be getting frustrated. Sounds like you know your **** though and I like that. Better than most of the info I've heard on this forum

You do realise that he trains recruits and that it wouldn't be hard to get your real name/age from your username, should you be lucky enough to get in to his section/platoon.

You just posted that guys cant get through to MOST barracks today because of a funeral.

This is not true. More disinformation you are posting.

There maybe a funeral somewhere today but unless its a state affair its not the cause of phones not being answered in MOST barracks across the country.

I do not need you to email me anything.

I would be hessitant to say thay 2017 applicants are being prioritised over 2016 applicants. I see from here that it is happening, the reason why, I have no idea.

It honestly could be as simple as all names on the list are sorted alphabetically by surname. It could be that the DoD want 2017 applicamts in first so it looks good for their yearly statistics. It could also be done by age bracket or geographical location or even gender. The apicatioms could be held up in another department for any amount of reasons, hell, someome might have misplaced or lost the application.

It could be a lot of things.

However, I guarantee that the Recruitment staff are not doing it for the craic or to piss 2016 applicants off.

I sympathise with you, I really do. I was in the same boat myself in 1998/1999 but I waited and now I am hitting my 18th year.

    Hold out.

John. Would you ever just stop running your mouth, I have checked up the young lads post and I got an officer who told me the exact same thing to ring back Monday due to circumstances of a funeral, so now I believe who is telling the truth and who's just on this running there mouth. If you train in platoons should you of not known this today then finding out for ourselves I'll gladly give anyone the number to ring back and hear the same awnsers. Now take a chill pill and relax and give your mouth a rest. After all you do train don't you.

Sorry but that still doesn't account for MOST of the barracks as you said.

Galway, Cork, Limerick, Kilkenny, Finner, The Brugha, McKee?

Are they all at this funeral as well?

Taking into account your posts on this thread, I can honestly say that you are not the type of person we want in the DF.

If you are this dismissive, abrasive and disrespectful in real life, you will have a hard time in the DF.

I would not be happy to have you in my Platoon in any function on any overseas mission. We need critical thinkers who are not out for needless confrontation. You would be a liability.

It wont be hard to find out who you are by your posts here, name, location, DOB. It would be a shame for your application to disapear.

Well I was on the phones to manpower offices throughout the DF at various times this morning and had no problem speaking with anyone.

Also if a phone in the DF isn't answered on a Friday, its not always because of a funeral.

Hmmm, lets evaluate your performance on this thread over the last few pages an see how you got on.

    - observes quietly
    - knows when to keep his fúcking mouth shut and pay attention to people who know what they are talking about.
    - waits for an enemy/rival to expose a weakness and/or make himself look bad.
    - goes in for the kill at the right time.

    You'll do well.

I was in the Barracks this morning. There are people around.

I have no idea who died, no word went around my Barracks. Also, the national flag was not at half mast so maybe it was not a DF member or State dignitary that died. It could have been a family member of a serving soldier.

If that was the case, only the local Barracks personnel would really go so not all Barracks would be empty.

Its also very possible the person on the end of the phone used a "funeral" as an excuse to get you off the phone. They are busy wrapping stuff up for the weekend.

Either way, people are in work and they are busy or people may be at a funeral.

    All of what lads?

Your the only one saying that most barracks are closed down today even though you freely admitted you only tried to ring one.

You are lying. Never said anyone else was.

Half the problem in this thread is people peddling/believing rumours that they cant confirm. Ye are all jumping to so many conclusions when ye really dont know what is going AT ALL.

Its **** they way ye are being treated but if you wanna join the Army, get used to it.

Before I ever posted in this thread I'd already given advice by PM to a few people who have posted on this thread in the past but I'm not gonna bother my hole anymore when my service, experience and knowledge is basically being insulted by people who aren't even recruits yet!!

Because there was too much sh1t being flung by people who are not qualified to fling it.

Serving members started posting to give you a brief idea of what is likely to be going on.

These serving members have experience and knowledge of the Recruitment process and of training Recruit Platoons.

It is to add balance to the discussion and to reassure the quieter lurkers of whats going on behind the scenes.

It was not to engage in tit for tat witj someone who refuses to accept what he is being told by people far more knowledgable.

    Thats why.
