What does a smartphone need so that it can be used as a modem for a laptop?

Hi all ,

Bit of a technophobe here .

I'm looking for a smartphone that I can occasionally use as a wireless modem for my laptop . What in the specs should I look for when phone shopping so that I can do this .

In particular I was looking at this phone ;

Look for "tethering" and "WiFi hotspot" in the spec which the Y6 has according to http://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/b10f3770

Check that this feature is not blocked by the operator (Vodafone, three etc). They frown on it even if they haven't blocked it, something to watch out for.

You would be looking for a phone that has mobile hotspot or tethering. I don't know if they would be listed in the phones specs or not. It's usually located in settings.

Some networks will charge you for using your device like this.
