Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi I have 2 boxers, male and female, I wish to get both insured, 1 is 9years and the other is 4 years, both are healthy

If in the event of a claim for injury or illness, will it matter if I have not have all of my dogs shots up to date? One of my dogs I picked upnfrom the side of a country road, there was no micro chip and after lots of looking around for it's owners I ended up keeping him in the end.

So hence I have no paper work.

I have a feeling that if I ever needed to make a claim on a policy that the insurance co would request lots of papers or something?

I'm knew to all of this, but perhaps somebody else might know

    Thanks

To be very honest op I doubt any insurance company will insurance a 9 year old dog .. Have u called them?

Even a 4 year old dog could be tricky.

Have you called them? That's your best option...

Also note any dog over 7 you'll have to pay the excess and 30% of the treatment anyway...

I Am with Allianz for my two girls. I don't think they would insure a 9 year old. My girls are both rescues so no papers and Allianz said they are then "crossbreeds". They are down as "labrador crossbreed". They look like labs to me tbh! My girls are 7 and 8 I think I pay €100 excess and 35% of each claim. It is well worth it as our old dog was on medicine which cost about €200 per month before she passed.

I insured them as soon as we got them at 12 weeks and 9 months. Our old dog came to is at "5" (I think she was older but vet did us a favour) and Allianz insured her no problem.

Hi. Does that mean you can only insure dogs from a pups age ?

I was reading on the 123.ie pet insurance that any dog 8+ the excess is 65€ +15%

Under 8 and it's just the excess of 65.

No. I think if dog is over 8 you can't get insurance.
Once my girls hit 7 I had excess of €100+35%. Under 7 was only €100.
I always found Allianz so easy to deal with....never argued over claims and I have claimed thousands and thousands like brand new car thousands ;)

Hi, so I can get one of my dogs insured, even tho she's never had insurance befor. Would they require any previous vet paper work from my previous vet , on registration or in the event of any injury or lioness. Thanks

Yes when a claim goes in they ask for history.

No it is not fruitless. I took out insurance the day I got my dogs, I told them dogs were rescues, you need to wait 2 weeks before they are fully covered. I got them micro chipped and vaccinated and say in 5 months one got sick..vet just sent off any info he had. The first claim for my old dog was x Rays for her hips and spine. The bill was around €600. They paid me back €500. She had that condition till she died and they paid out every month for medicine etc.

you will probably have to have the dogs vaccinated and show they are up to date on vaccines though; that is listed in policies usually. petinsurance.ie is one I have used and they have been ok. I doubt you will find insurance for the 9 year old though, as others have said they usually wont insure after age 8. you can have continued insurance after that age, but you have to take it out before they are 8. also, some companies have a premium on certain breeds that have high claims, such as boxers. with at least some companies you will likely shell out between 300-400 a year for the insurance for the one boxer, and it may get increased. however, given how prone they are to cancer, heart problems, etc, i think its really a good idea.
