Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Did I miss something. He can't present a tv show, couldn't sing when he was a boy and now he's representing the country at a song contest. Dustin must be scratching his beak wondering what he did wrong.

I like the idea of direct selection compared to Late Late Show audience or a reality show block voted by teenagers but could RTE have not found someone else. Always pick their own.

    It could have been Tubridy.

    Fixed.

Why did they do away with the national competition? Or has this been the way for a while?

Who else was in the running?

    Read Barry Egan on Sunday.

We should change our country's name to Irelastan and have a real loud and bright Europop entry. Confuse the eastern europeans in to voting for us.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,793 ✭✭✭Red Kev

Here he is. Schmalzy Europop number. Should qualify for the final and then a mid to lower table finish.

Very forgettable. RTE will go nowhere so long as the song is picked internally or by the close RTE golden circle (Louis Walsh, Linda whatshername erc. Etc.)

What is the Late Late Show going to do now that one Friday of the season has been rendered obselete?

I think Twink, Louis Walsh, and the RTE canteen regulars can expect a call soon for a booking :)

We're all waiting for Richie Kavanagh to get the nod next year aren't we?

Too many close ups of his teeth in that video. Weird.

Be honest, you couldn't care less.

The song like the singer is bland, inoffensive and will go nowhere. Thats possibly what rte are hoping for. Anyone would think they are deliberately trying to lose it every year.

I wonder will Bertie go over to support his son in law :)

Eurovision is a joke and the song is crap...but he seems like a real decent sort of guy. So the very best of luck to him.

Nepotism is alive and well in RTE. The only person who can sing in Ireland is that gob****e who works for them?
He was just on the radio telling Ray Darc'y about how great he is. Did ya ever hear a Bo880x more up himself?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,452 ✭✭✭✭The_Valeyard

Well nothing else has worked in the past few years, lets give this a go so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,439 ✭✭✭tupenny

Don't see how anyone could say he's up himself? Seems very decent / down to earth to me..
Doesn't matter what or who we send it's not like we will win anyway.
Good luck to him all the same!

Is singing in the Eurovision the musicians equivalent to an actor moving to commercials?

Anyway, at least it's not Brian McFadden.

What happened to picking the best song and best singer in an open competition where the winner wins based on you know, merit

Going out on a limb here, Westlife fan?

His voice is rather weedy. Listening to the recorded version of the entry, there is plenty of multi tracking of his voice, or another voice, on it. He'll need plenty of backing singers to pull it off live. I'm sure RTE will supply him with three. As for the song, it's nothing special...a bit like the man himself. I'm sure his father in law put in a word, or his millionaire sister in law. Don't think their success is down to talent....more to do with Fianna Fail shysterism and string pulling

Oh come on, Eurosong night is one of the best LLS of the year. This is a bloody disgrace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,985 ✭✭✭mikeym

    Nil Point.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,661 ✭✭✭Crimsonforce

His vocal in the song is weak, even after the production. I'm not sure how he would be able to perform live AND without a stool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,715 ✭✭✭✭Ally Dick

Markus and the bloke with the Roger Moore eyebrow were the singers in Westlife. The others were passengers, including Nicky

Ah now ... no need to insult musicians.

Fair bit of ad homenem so far in this thread.

Agree with predictions of qualifying for final and placing quite lowly

The father dick Byrne theory ?

I would have advocated sending John without Edward this year (to mix things up)

We didn't get out of the semi final in years.

I'm someone who believes the voting blocs largely decided that, although having said that many of the songs were like this years entry, bland.

To win Eurovision your entry has to stand out, not blend in.

We probably would have more hope if we sent a transgender person of east European extraction with a half decent song. That would tick at least a couple boxes.

Well said. A great reason not to watch the eurovision , if ever there was one.
