What a legend. Sky will forever remind me of The Phenom
Who does not recognize your own mistakes it is not worthy to lead yourself, even less the people around him. I recognize that I am far from perfect, I am only human; a human being. Once a poet in Brazil wrote: " - may love be eternal while it lasts. It is a beautiful fragment of a poem, but a truly consider it naive. If I may and with all do respect, I would re write it like this: " - may love be eternal while we nurture it." I confess that I need to nurture my competitive will inside the Octagon. I must cherish that fire inside of me again. Having recognized that to myself; I DECIDED TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BURN THAT FLAME AGAIN! Thanks a lot for all the support and advices. But I decided that I will end this chapter of my life looking at the mirror and recognizing myself.

Was never quite the same off the juice. A legend but part of a different era. His time was well up.

What would your best guess be as to his ability level?

His refusal to train more in the Gi means he's technically a white belt but to my lesser trained eye i'd put him at Brown Belt level.

Can you imagine turning up for a grappling comp and your in the same bracket at Jon Jones possibly the GOAT in martial arts, how awesome yet scary.

scary when you consider he's in the white belt category and throwing playful fake elbows faints for a bit of craic :pac:

He's a NJCAA Wrestling champion and all American and a blackbelt under Greg Jackson's grappling system, but not an IBJJF acredited black belt.

He's a blackbelt level BJJ player. He'd dominate most black belts on the planet.

Yeah I agree,I know of lads wrestling all their life they only train nogi bjj (so they are whitebelts in theory) yet maul purple and brown belts for fun using their wrestling base,

Only the very top black belts in the world would give him trouble specially lads who are expert leg lock specialists and such,In the gi he'd be strangled though.

If you mean how would he do in competition alone. Then, he would absolutely beat most black belts in sub-grappling matches. No question there.
He choked out Machida, arm-locked Vitor. The guy in the video above was a brown belt, etc. But beating a black belt doesn't mean you are a black belt in bjj. Like what if a new white belt asks him a basic question, he can't really say "I dunno dude, I don't do that stuff".

He trains BJJ in the Gi with Gracie Barra, and AFAIK they take a real systematic approach to grading. There's probably some tiny Gi technique he's ignored that's keeping him at white. Like a gi choke from mount/guard. Or maybe a required number of classes in the gi.

So, about that classic photo where he's got the white-belt, I said ‘Jon, I'm going to put the white belt on you because you never trained in the gi. You're good as hell, you caught a black-belt in a guillotine and all, but that doesn't make you a black-belt.' So, I want him to put in work.

It's a way of forcing him to put on the gi and take some lessons, the same way my other students do. I don't think it's fair to my students who work one or two years to get a blue-belt for Jon - because he's a UFC star - to get the blue belt without knowing the philosophy, without knowing who my master is. That's how I think and he respects that a lot."

GSP has just said on the MMA Hour that he has had his contract terminated with the UFC.

They missed a deadline to arrange a fight for him.

Wow he's a huge free agent.

Wouldnt surprise me to see him get signed by One FC.

I think he'll bounce between organisations looking for big fights. He could play it like Fedor and just remain independent, taking one off big fights.

I think Bellator will go all out to sign him though.

Big fight with Askren then on to Bellator hoepfully; along with Larkin there WW division is getting stacked.

It'll be interesting to see the UFC reaction. They may fight him in court and try to prevent him fighting in other orgs, but if they end up losing it could set a bad precedent regarding free agency.

Seems like Dana publically criticizing him about not having a fighters mentality actually pushed him over the edge. Said negotiations were going well with Lorenzo before WME took over and than all the deals that were offered were taken off the table.

Lorenzo might have been making deals he knew he couldn't keep though with a sale imminent he wouldn't have to fulfill them. Supposedly Ari Emanuel recently paid a visit to Reebok in person to try and negotiate an exemption for GSP that they flat out rejected.

Reebok seem to be a major player in the discontent of the fighters in the UFC from top to bottom. In a way it's good enough for WME as they were the very people who suggested the UFC go the uniform route with Reebok as it appeared more professional and streamlined.

Reinforces Conor and Ronda's position at the top of the pile, without them the UFC could go back to having a year like 2014 where most PPV's struggled to break 300k.

Interesting times, the Fed have recently been investigating the UFC's finances and specifically their debt. Profits should be no less than 6x the debt in a leveraged buy out and the current levels are something like 12x. They are going to need a lean year with some record breaking PPV's to achieve the 6x figure by years end. Expect job losses to make this happen.

I wonder do WME-IMG regret paying 4.2b for the company already?

True, $300 million in the bank - who cares?

So apparently Lorenzo Fertita promised GSP all this stuff but that was off the table when the UFC was sold.

Will be disappointing to see GSP compete in the "inferior" leagues

Rory, Joe Duffy now GSP. Who does Tristar have left still with UFC? Loiseau is retired right? But JoJo for sure still there I think. Interesting
If a big US based team followed suit, things would get interesting...

I haven't been following this GSP story closely, is that the door firmly slammed shut on a UFC return or could they work things out yet?

A talent like that doesn't belong in Bellator or any inferior promotion to the UFC, it'd be a shame to see.

I think so. The sticking point is that GSP has a massive sponsorship with Under Armour and obviously he needs to be compensated to fight in the Reebok era of UFC.

Some speculation that UFC might sue to prevent him competing in other organisations

If UFC 205 does 2 million+, which to be fair is odds-on likely, and Ronda's return does 1 million +, which again is highly likely, then this year will be shatter their gross revenue record.

2015 their gross revenue was $608,209,000 for a net profit of $157,806,000.

That was primarily on the back of Conor McGregor bringing in 2.1 million PPV buys for 189/194 and Ronda bringing in 1.1 million for the Holm fight.

If UFC 205 does 2 million as expected, then McGregor alone will be responsible for bringing in 5.25 million PPV buys.

Add in UFC 200 which did 1.2 million and Rondas return probably a similar 1.2 million, then you have almost 8 million PPV buys.

When you count up the rest of the PPV buys for the year, the other events combined probably add up to around a further 3 million buys.

So you're looking at anywhere between 10 and 12 million PPV buys in the calendar year.

That's pretty astonishing stuff. Then of course you have the tv money, Fight Pass money, merchandising, Reebok etc. So, 2016 has been a record-breaking year.

The problem with all of that is the whole model is effectively dependent on McGregor and/or special events like UFC 200.

They don't have a UFC 200 style event next year. And if any rumours of Conor taking time off have credence, then they will struggle massively in 2017.

In short, the $4.2 billion currently represents a good deal if they can sustain the amazing numbers of 2016.

But that's a) 100% reliant on McGregor and Rousey. b) reliant on fighters not unionizing and cutting into profits c) reliant on them delaying the implementation of the Ali Act into MMA.

All is rosy in the garden for now. Thanks mainly to one fella from Crumlin. Which is pretty mental.

i believe he signed a 6-fight deal prior to UFC 194 so that'd mean 3 left but god knows what's happened behind the scenes since then.
