Cruz is just so hard to hit. His movement is incredible. He should be teaching Ido Portal a few things! TJ had his moments obviously but he was struggling to hit him for the full 25 minutes.

Easier said than done but i think the only way to currently have a right go at Cruz is for an elite wrestler willing to walk through his punches to drag him to the ground.

I've got a huge problem with this "tainted supplement defence".

What's to stop Jon Jones going to the GNC in America and buying every supplement he can see. Then testing each and every one until he hits bingo on what he popped for?

Ok, most fighters down the roster wouldn't have the finances to do this.

But his manager said that Jon Jones UFC 200 payday would have amounted to 8 figures or $10 million including PPV points.

When his future income is worth tens of millions, he has every incentive to spend $200,000 testing every supplement possible.

I.e. There's nothing to stop him reverse-engineering a tainted supplement excuse.

I've clearly got sympathy with him if he actually unknowingly took it but his track record (in life) is pretty dubious so he wouldn't be one i'd put complete faith in.

Thats what i was getting at to be honest; its shady as ****. It could be worse atleast he didnt blame kangaroo meat or viagra.

I watched Aldo v Mendes 2 again today. What an absolutely fantastic fight.

Fighters should have submitted what supplements they are on by brand-name and product number prior to when they take it.

If they pop, the tainted supplement excuse is warranted because they had given full disclosure to what they have taken.

But if they simply find a contaminated supplement by testing everything on the shelf then they should serve a full ban.

Anyone hear Matt Brown on the MMA Hour on about brain trauma+ concussion? said he has got up and just collapsed before there is one serious epidemic due to hit the sport soon Jordan Parson having brain trauma aged 25 with only 1 ko loss is pretty daunting if thats common.

It's not just MMA. NFL, Rugby, nearly all combat sports, and even soccer.

Heading a football caused between 40-67% impairment of memory for up to 3 days after the event. Something like 95% of college football players end up having CTE too, even if they stopped playing directly after college.

But Jordan Parsons was not the best example because he died in a hit and runs and suffered significant head trauma in the accident itself.

The thing about CTE is that it can only be diagnosed posthumously, which makes it difficult to know if you should stop fighting or not. Hopefully treatment can be developed as I don't think people are going to stop competing in these sports any time soon.

    Timing has to be questioned.

Rumours floating that she got the chop for her role in McGregors punishment. Other rumours are they wanted her gone before the Jon Jones hearing so he would receive a lesser punishment.

I wouldn't be surprised to see McGregor's fine halved on appeal.

NYSAC have said they are monitoring McGregor's situation and that he hasn't applied for a license to fight yet. They might not agree to license him unless he pays up as the commissions are technically federal entities and have commonality agreements between them.

I believe he might appeal just after applying so he gets an extension on the fine and can still fight in NYC.

Well her term was up at the end of this month. It was at the whim of the Governor whether she was re-appointed.

The Governor who appointed is retired and the current Governor may well have promised the position to another lobbyist in the bid to get re-elected.

The heat she brought to the office probably didn't help, especially considering Nick Diaz had a petition sent to the White House with over 100k signatures but my bet this is probably just a political move.

Cody is potentially a very marketable fighter, IMO. If he beats Cruz the UFC should get behind him the same way they did with Rousey and Conor. They really need to find more draws as there's fcuk all there at the minute.

    They will I think.

He also has the added bonus of being friends with Dana White's son.

Cody has arguably one of the easiest runs to the title in history imo

    Marcus Brimage
    - Henry Briones
    - Augusto Mendes
    - Thomas Almeida
    - Takeya Mizugaki

Nobody whinging about that but they cried when Conor got his shot

The only person ahead of Cody who actually deserves a shot ahead of him is TJ. Lineker's ranking makes no sense.

Even that is a tougher run than Conor got.

Conor hadn't fought anyone in the top 10 when he got his title shot. Getting a title fight after fighting a geriatric German midget was a joke.

Lets be fair though whoever wins this seasons ultimate fighter (I'm only on EPS 3 so no spoilers please) definitely gets the easiest run up to a title shot, but that'll be like a lamb to slaughter anyway nobody is challenging DJ

Lineker beat McDonald and Dodson, they're both better than anybody Cody has faced.

If all was fair it would've been Cruz/TJ 2 and Lineker/Cody (would've been a great brawl).

Without opening that old can of worms Conor had a tougher run to the belt than most featherweights I would say the hardest actually dont know anyone who had it any harder or was more impressive,

Cody's best win is Almeida the rest are bums he's dispatched them with ko's so in that sense hes probably earned it in most peoples eyes.

    Porrier was ranked 6th iirc.

We all know Siver fight was a tune up job,

Lamas got one off a win over eric koch,
    Mendes off Nik Lentz,
Korean Zombie off a Poirier win
Frankie off 2 'losses' and Florian fought Aldo coming off a win Diego ****ing Nunes

The outrage was hilarious at the time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,418 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

Why do people act like only the fight immediately before the shot matters?
None of those guys got a **** off of a single win.

Conor would have probably got the shot after Porrier if the timing worked for Aldo.

Lineker should be left nowhere near a title. The man needs to make weight before he should even be considered.

Conor had the shot before beating Siver. He didn't have to take the Siver fight.

so he already had the title shot in the bag and just decided to fight siver for the heck of it so idiots online would think ''he deserved it''? be real here

A chunk of it was the fact that Cub went Roop-Pearson-Oliveira-Poirier-Siver-Stephens at the time and as ya say others had gotten a title shot for less, with Aldo Mendes 2 up in the air (had to be rescheduled) the UFC had Cub fly to Dublin no doubt with eye to facing Conor in the near future, they opted to give Conor Dustin Poirier instead while Cub took a bout with Frankie Edgar and got wrecked.

When the Siver bout was announced people posed the avoiding wrestlers theory he managed to avoid Frankie but was given the wrestler on 2 weeks notice when Aldo pulled out, the wrestler failed to win,Conor tasted gold but the way the fight panned out Conor won but appeared to get exposed so people wanted to see him against the wrestler with a decent fightcamp instead.

Aldo was gone in 13 seconds after 2 years of build up and Mendes was gone in 150 the night before at the hands of Frankie. The match up was obvious but we soon heard the words "Red panty night" and on went 2016...

Conor had the shot before beating Siver. He didn't have to take the Siver fight.

The Siver fight was pretty much an exhibition fight because Conor wanted to fight in Boston.

They used it to set up the Aldo fight by having him in the audience.

Conor stood to lose a lot in that fight though. He would've absolutely lost his shot and looked like an idiot if he had lost to Siver, especially with Aldo in the crowd.

It was one of the biggest mismatches in recent memory though, they knew Siver didn't have a chance.

I agree, but that's another discussion. He's still got great wins and deserves a high ranking, not a title shot though.

I was going to reply in detail but then read Lukker's response which articulates it much better than I would have. It was fairly well known that Conor was getting the title shot after beating Poirier. Dana (whether you believe the man or not) pretty much said it would be hard to deny Conor the shot. He ended up fighting Siver to get on the Boston card (and I think Aldo may have been injured at the time). He asked for it. So yes, fighting Siver was completely unnecessary as he was getting the shot anyway.

It's frustrating to see. Wasn't Ian McCall in line for a potential shot at 135 and ended up losing to Lineker (who missed weight) which eliminated two potential No.1 contenders in one go? I see the same happening at 145.
