On top of all that, Cowley lost his MMA debut pretty comprehensively on points to a lad that Richie Smullen dispatched quite easily with a heel hook.

Early days but I suppose my point is it's a bit strange for an amateur MMA fighter with a 0-1 record to be recording VLOGS about a training camp?

I think he's discovering the transition from elite Muay Thai to MMA ain't gonna be all sunshine and rainbows.

Smullen dispatched of him easily because Smullen is an excellent grappler at regional level. Your man he was fighting was a good grappler in his own right, He's had MMA fights as far back as before Cowley even made the transition, so there are gonna be big difference between grappling ability. He has only been training MMA for a year at that stage too, and he absolutely lit him up in the last round. Not saying Cowley is gonna make it as an elite fighter but he has an excellent base and if he can add takedown defense and better defensive grappling to his arsenal he'll have a decent career.

Do you have an elaborate alert system enabled on a new iPhone to specifically ping you when one of us criticizes SBG or an SBG athlete :pac: :P

It's like the Bat Signal haha :)

    I think you'll find I wasn't sticking up for him :)

    Also, I hate iPhones

One was an amateur making his debut.
The other a pro with a few fights under his belt (and a brown belt to boot).

It's a bit unfair to hold them to the same standard. (I believe they fought that guy in consecutive fight).

    His record says he's 3-1

I haven't watched the video but I don't think there's any prerequisite level you need to be at before you're allowed make V-Logs.

Ah I know I'm not knocking him I wish them all success but it was a disappointing debut against a journeyman fighter. Not knocking the ambition in the VLogs either just doubting many will watch them just yet :)

As for the 3-1, the 3 wins were in IMMAF World's which I *suppose* counts but it's a bit sketchy counting IMMAF fights given you fight 4 people on consecutive days in order to make the final. You could conceivably start the week at 0-0 and end the week at 3-1 or 4-0 seems fishy counting that.

    Why wouldn't they count though?
They are fought under the same (or reasonably similar) rules to a standalone ammy fight on some random undercard.
People still count early UFC/Dream/Pride same night fights on pro records.

Why is she fondling her t1ts, hardly subtle?!

    Dear Lord.

(secretly hoping there's an X-Rated Version)

Edit - Is this a parody? Like did she send this to a mate for the craic who leaked it?

Pimping herself out to reebok smh, dont see her better spending time doing some training although this is probably some publicity stunt with a fight announcement coming.

For all my guy followers out there. I know you have a girl, a mother, a sister that could use some new workout clothes.

I really hope there aren't many guys watching that thinking 'Mum would look great in a pair of them'.

    Who said that?

Gallagher on it tonight and as I was watching it the gf asks me why Conor was talking with an accent! I'm telling you all, Gallagher is trying to morph into Conor. From tattoos, to social media posts to his accent and his laugh.

Obviously he's oblivious to it but can his team, friends or family not see it?

There's not a hope he's oblivious to it! If you ask me, it's very clearly a deliberate ploy

Really? If that's the case, that makes it worse!

I'd say the accent thing is more to do with the time he's spent in Dublin to be fair.

Nates a character for sure but I'm usually left disappointed with his interviews. Unless he's in top form, its like getting blood from a stone trying to get him to engage.

Yeah his lone interviews aren't great, he doesn't exactly have charisma. His best moments are when he has an opponent to **** talk with.

Hopefully he hints at a return to the octagon. Himself vs Tony just makes to much sense not to happen.

Also woodley announced on ufc unfiltered that hes back in training camp to fight in July. He would not say against who

Begging for a draw to fight him so they sell tickets cause he cant.

Strange hes in camp and nothing announced tbh

Wouldn't be any possibility that Woodley is contracted to fight the winner of Maia and Masdival somehow?

Hopefully Nate has something to say other than just he wants more money to fight anyone. Him vs Tony would be a great match-up I think and he'd probably make a decent amount of money out of it.

Didn't Woodley say he's fighting in July. That's too soon. It would work if it's a quick fight and the winner takes no damage but you really wouldn't set up a big main event based on that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,405 ✭✭✭Lukker-

Yeah the UFC don't book fights off of fights that haven't happened yet, too many variables such as getting medically cleared and injuries can throw a spanner in the works.

Whoever Woodley is fighting, they are not not scheduled to fight yet.

I think the only real options are: Nick Diaz, Nate Diaz, Gunnar, Conor or Neil Magny.

    The rest are already booked

Magny?! Lol come on man, undeserved contenders only get a title shots when they are actually popular. What's your reasoning for including Magny in that list? Not being a dick btw, just confused and wondering if there's some beef between the two or some other reason to book that fight.

He's the only other fighter in the top 10 who isn't booked, and he's also coming off a win.

I know it's unlikely, but the UFC have made stranger matchups before. Jon Jones vs OSP for an interim title is one

I know he's highly ranked, but it's because he beat the absolute worst version of Johny Hendricks ever seen in the octagon and he barely got the job done (many argue he lost even, either way it was far from convincing).

You do have a point about the matchups of course, just look at DJ's last few title defences. It's just that welterweight was always and still is one of the highest quality divisions in the UFC and seeing a guy like Magny get a title shot at this stage would disgust me to be honest. It's a shame Rory fecked off to Bellator, he'd walk straight into a title shot at the minute if they don't already have bigger plans for Woodley.

Diaz accepted a fight with Tony for July but then rejected it as he doesn't want to do conors dirty work. Said he has no problem sorting out the rest of the year.

Going by MMA Fightings Twitter account he is on the mother of all rants. Been going half an hour or more at this stage by the looks of it.
