I'd imagine it's like the deal TJ has where every win adds to his fight and win amounts and if he gets a championship fight he gets big money.

As long as Joe is happy and he's back in there boxing the heads off of lads again soon it's all good.

That's pretty class, and he's a bad ass jumping into a fight with a grown man at 16.
But it wasn't a bare knuckle fight (yes i'm aware his hands were bare).

    Basically combat jiu jitsu

Good for him. About time too. Hopefully we get some news soon

Thrilled to hear this. He could go all the way to the top if he gets the right fights. The one thing that may get in his way is that he is too modest and not brash enough at press conferences. This seems to be part of the publics expectations now. Pity as it is going to weed out a lot of talent.

Hes not good enough to go to the top imho, good fighter but would be murdered by most in the top 5/7.

Kevin Lee was ko'd dead by some bjj specialist and is now on the verge on interim title shots a few fights later, anything is possible his boxing is miles ahead of a heap of them in that division.

McGregor should have brought him in to prep for Mayweather! :D

Anyone going over to Glasgow on Sunday? Seery's retirement fight and Gunnar headlining. Loads of tickets still available.

  • Registered Users Posts: 647 ✭✭✭eddie73

Duffy is good enough to get into the top. Everyone has a blemish on their record. Just cause he lost to Poirier he still salvaged a lot from that fight, including a comeback at the end of it. His wrestling has really improved too since then despite one wobble against Maddog last march.
I think that he is one of the toughest and technically soundest in his division. 7 fights will prove what he is about imo....provided he gets a good fight to get traction from....the question is, will the UFC want someone who is calm and quiet at a press conference? The public want a show now and this unfortunately will not suit Duffy.

If duffy was to get a few wins under his belt and beat a top guy im sure the ufc would love an all irish fight between him and mcgregor. It would print them money and also due to the fact that duffy beat him before

I am not sure this is even relevant any more. A year ago maybe, but since the Nate Diaz episode, the consolidation of the 2 belts and now Mayweather, it seems a different lifetime.

Is that even her? Or am I missing some sorta joke here

He was absolutely totally owned/dominated by Poirier. The top 5 lightweights would eat him alive. He has a LOT of improvements to make if he ever wants to be considered a contender in that division.

Definitely not her, some sort of joke going over our heads?

No. On the feet he was getting the better f Dustin, and he was attacking off his back late on. The only thing that let him down was his takedown defense and inability to get up against the cage. Defensive wrestling isn't hard to improve, in fact I'd argue it's easier to improve takedown defense and defensive wrestling than just about any other area.

Maddog is a better wrestler than Porier and in the short time between the two fights Duffy's takedown defense had clearly improved.

Duffy has some of the best boxing in the UFC, period. His ground game is very good too, he catches triangles from all angles.

If he can work on his wrestling and takedown defense he's easily top 5 material. Easily.

Is that supposed to be like Mo Farrah mistaking Noel Gallagher for Liam on twitter?

    Jon Jones' latest interview:

"I just like to have a good time, man," Jones says. "If you can afford to smoke a little weed, and do a little coke, and still win world titles, who's to tell you you can't? I understand these things are illegal. And once you get caught doing it, it's humiliating. But at the same time, I'm not an addict or anything like that. You don't see me walking around weighing ****ing 100 pounds with my teeth rotting out and scabs all over my face."

He just doesn't get it, does he? He will never change. Just a matter of time before he ****s up again.

    Load of rubbish, that.

Very interested in the fight don't get me wrong, but zero interest in them as TUF coaches.

I also think that they should have rematched Eddie and Dustin.

I'm sure there's a medical suspension incoming for Gaethje but one way to kill his momentum completely is to have him sidelined due to TUF for the next 6 months.

    Dumb.

Only reason I can think of is that are gonna do Tony v khabib, winner gets Conor and then winner of Justin Eddie gets the shot. Obviously UFC are hoping Justin gets it done and will have some steam behind him from the show. Lot of ifs and buts there.

Would TUF not give him more exposure ? Heard a rumour hes medically suspended until december.

Cracking fight though. Should be a war. Im sure dustin feels hard done by though. Kevin lee as a next oppenent for him would make sense

Sage v Makdessi scrapped from 214. Both injured.

    Easily? Really?

There's nothing easy about breaking into that top 5.

Its not completely beyond him I suppose but ''easily'' is a massive stretch when that same top 5 has the likes of McGregor, Ferguson, Barboza, even Nate Diaz.

There's no dressing up the fact that he was dominated completely by Poirier, even if he did manage to get a sub attempt in the last minute or two. It was a very lopsided decision. His boxing is above average definitely but absolutely not some of the best in the UFC. There's too much made of his pro boxing record IMO. The first round was the only real time they were on their feet and IMO it was 50/50. Duffy was definitely rattled a couple of times during that round. He did well to survive the second at all and besides the sub attempt he didn't do much in the third.

A fighter like Medadi isn't really a yardstick to judge any improvements IMO. I've been a fan of his for a long time but I think he is a very long way off top 5 pace at the moment.
