The article also states that he lobbied Nama, which is an offence. He did so as a 'public representative'.

Not the first time Galway Premier Car Sales has made the news!

The illness highlighted in these reports is unrelated to his current illness, which is suppose to be life threatening.

I heard that too, however don't want to post the illness as it's quite personal

Is anything going to really come of it though?

If there are multiple cases of him lobbying NAMA - which there now are- on behalf of those he shares business links with, it's quite possible an investigation will be sought.

    It is a criminal offense.

    Update.
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Former Galway West TD Brian Walsh is to initiate legal action against a Sunday newspaper over allegations involving him and NAMA.

Mr Walsh resigned as a Fine Gael TD a few weeks ago for health reasons.

In a statement issued this evening Mr Walsh said that he intends to initiate legal proceedings against the Sunday Times.

He says he’s absolutely confident that his good name will be vindicated and that he can establish that he has at all times discharged his duties as a public representative
lawfully and in the public interest.

Mr Walsh’s action relates to articles published in the Sunday Times today and in previous editions.

When contacted by Galway Bay fm news for a statement, the Fine Gael party said that as Brian Walsh is no longer a Fine Gael TD, it would not be commenting on the matter.

Ahh, he's going for the Denis O'Brien/Donald Trump defence strategy, basically sue anyone who shines a light on the skeletons in his closet.

He should take a look at their success record, ie very poor win/lose ratio

Newspapers are pretty careful when it comes to these things, this will have been carefully vetted by their legal team before publication

I wonder if the 1,800 pension and the salary from the Directorship (given to him by the family he lobbied for) will be enough to cover the legal bill he's going to be left with after he loses, and he will lose

It would be nice for a change to actually see alleged white collar crime actually investigated and not just swept under carpet. He has acted on 2 separate occasions now former business associations, surely this warrants investigation. But I wont hold my breath on anything happening.

If the IT did receive the info under FOI, then they. Surely wouldn't publish unless their legal advisers were certain it was accurate. I really hope they don't back down on this, because it seems there really is a story to be told!!
