Misadvised (Lied to) in interview

    Hello

My boyfriend moved to Galway for work recently (Artic/C License delivery driver)

In his interview, he was advised he would be working from 7am every morning, Monday - Friday. 400 Euro per week with possible over time.

He was text the Friday before he was due to start on the Monday and was told he would start at 4am that Monday. He was also told he would work 5 days per week (Mon - Friday) but some weeks he has only 4 days work, including Saturdays.

He wont speak up as he is afraid of losing the job.

He was also told by some of the other drivers to slow down with getting his work done so quick as it was making them look bad and they would all be paid less (work done faster means less hours and lower income)

His contract (completely different than advised in interview) states hours of work 45 hours, over these shifts:

    1) 04:00am - 2:00pm

    2) 06:00am - 4:00pm

Salary 400 Euro Gross but some days is only given 4 days work which isn't in the contract although it states may have to work other hours and means he gets paid about 350 if he follows those working hours between 4-2 and also 1 hour lunch gets deducted even if he doesn't take lunch. So if he works 40 hours, he gets about 350)

He is mad looking for other work at the moment, does this sound wrong to you?

Does anyone have any suggestions of companies that may be hiring that he would be suited to?

    Thanks in advance

    hi
These practices are very common in this industry I also have experienced this.

Which company does yr BF work for ?

If he applies for a company like Reynolds he will be very well looked after they treat employees well but he will need to have ADR qualification also ??

A few things for you. Firstly the HR section in large companies may be aware of overall conditions, however from my experience it normally is down to the transport mgr in each depot to keep the operation going so if there is a discrepency thats possibly one of the reasons for the different shifts.

Secondly, at least he has a contract. A lot of people are working without them and although it isn't great it is something in writing which could be a start for further negotiation.

Not all companies pay people for their meal breaks. If he is going to get
deducted he may as well take it. Make sure he abides also by the statutory rest periods. Some mgrs expect young / new drivers to go the extra mile. Remember its his licence.

Personally speaking, if by working fast he gets less hours I would feel inclined to take it easy so as not to cut himself. A check also with NERA with regard to statutory conditions should also be on the cards. I would use the job as a means to getting experience and whilst employed use the opportunity to apply to other companies.
