Just get on with life, it is just the common cold, take some paracetamol. drink enough water/liquid and forget about it. Maybe some caffeine for extra energy.

You can get serious bouts of it that are closer to the Flu than to your average cold.

I had one last month and I was physically unable to work, spent two days in bed like a delirious raving lunatic. Was OK for work after a few days but took about a week to feel right again.

Not something you can just 'get on with and forget about', even though most people think of sniffles and a headache when people say they have a cold.

Two Solpadine and nasal spray before bed… Bob's your uncle. ;)

Another vote for hot whiskey here. (Or any booze really).
And as another poster said, this is a bad dose going round that seems to result in a chest infection for many, including myself.

I don't like whiskey normally, but if I've a cold, I'll always have a few; shot or two in a glass, add some freshly squeezed lemon, a lemon slice, some cloves, teaspoon of honey and top with hot water.
Sip a few of those and you will feel a lot better.

If you feel it's going to your chest, get to the doc and get yourself some antibiotics; I've an awful habit of ignoring chestiness and it always develops into the most wretched infection.
    Feel better, OP!

Nothing really...the best thing I've found over the years is though is to sweat it out...I run, lift and hit the sauna after...do that for 2 or 3 days and it's gone. Otherwise I'm stuck with a cold for a week.

2nd that! Worst thing you can do is take to your bed. Vitamin D is what you need and plenty of it too, for the entire winter.

Treat the symptoms with neurofen and strepsils, treat the illness with lots of rest, hydration and warmth.

Suffered from that last week, was laid up in bed for two days, still coughing up the remnants of it at the moment.

Just don't end up drinking half the bottle. Your immune system will be hammered and you'll be much worse the next day. Actually whenever I get sick it's because I've been on the beer a bit too much the night before.

As for antibiotics, personally I leave them unless I am extremely sick. Haven't had antibiotics in 20 years at least. People overdo them and doctors prescribe them too often.

Why not share the love - a slow b/j!

  • Plenty of hot whiskeys in front of the fire or put the heat on full wrap yourself in a blanket and sweat the damn cold out of you, use the biggest mug you have ;)

Spend the day outside in the fresh air, drink a few (or a lot) hot ports, then go to bed with an extra duvet.

Or just rest, drink lots of water and wait for it to run its course, but the above method is more fun!
