Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm looking for some thick white slim fitting & reasonably priced formal shirts - I need to wear them every day at work so go through quite a few - prefer to buy online if possible.

So far I've tried Savile Row (quality really varies - one particular type is OK but rarely in stock in normal sizes), M&S (bit expensive but preferred brand at the moment), Debenhams (Jeff Banks etc. are OK).

    Any other online suggestions?

Charles TYrwhitt and TM Lewin. In my experience Tyrwhitt are better quality.

    Will take a look, thanks.

Anyone know if Charles Tyrwhitt extra slim fit would be the equivalent of slim fit in stores like Debenhams (as is the case with Savile Row etc.)?

Tm Lewin white shirts are brilliant. They're a fairly thick blend of cotton. Can be a pain to iron though.

^ Iron 'em damp and they're grand! Go twill rather than poplin.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any idea what the difference is between slim & fitted? And what would be standard sleeve length?

I don't mean to sound rude but how much more spoon-feeding do you need?

Tyrwhitt give you the exact measurements on their site and TM Lewin let you pick your collar size, sleeve length and even give you a virtual fitting room where you can add your height, weight and dimensions and try the shirts on. If you scroll down the page on the link above you can see detailed notes about the fit, the type of fabric used and the collar style. Get your hands on a measuring tape and figure it out. If you live in Dublin go and try them on in the shop in person.

Fitted and Slim are subjective terms. Fitted normally means "tight", so I'd avoid that unless you want to look like a 17 year old on work experience.

Slim tends to mean less material, so less bagginess and billowing at the sides or sleeves. Slim is your best bet, but again it depends on the shirt. TM Lewin slim fit is a good choice.

The sleeve length will vary depending on the collar size; so a 17 collar will be 36 for regular, 16 will be 35, etc. Check the options when you are buying the shirt, the websites should also have a size guide to help you pick.

I went in to TM Lewin today to pick up similar to the OP however I wasn't a fan of their collars, I'm looking for quite a small (for want of a better word) collar. I plan on wearing with a tie and without and the TM Lewin tended to spread without a tie leaving me looking like 1970's Travolta.

Any suggestions of where I should be looking?

I go for M&S Collection Tailored fit.
their collars are not too wide, so fine without a tie.

Also look into getting your own set of metal collar stays. You can either get them with magnets or you can put a slight bend in them yourself to stop this pancaking effect.

A lot of your brick and mortar stores have online shopping now that can be delivered. Where do you normally buy your shirts? See if they have some and if they will ship it to you.
