What type of report did you go for??

The full report. For cars over 8 or 9 years it is €25. Best money i ever spent. Saved me thousands in the long run.

Its very hard to buy a second hand car (10 years old or over) that wont give you hassle these days.

well with private sellers the most important thing to consider is caveat emptor (buyer beware). You will not really have a comeback with a private seller, once you hand over your money that's it.

With a dealer you are buying with some peace of mind, you often may get a warranty on the car and should you have any issues with it then the consumer act will be on your side.

Of course the trade off is that you will often pay more for the same car through a dealer.

If you are buying from a private seller I'd definitely get an independent mechanic to look the car over and I'd pay the few quid for a cartell report (cartell.ie).

Check out this sticky on the Motoring forum for lots of useful info, here

The 04 is suspiciously low. I'd be doing a car history check on both even if it is a well known cork dealer. I almost bought a written off car in january until i done a history check.

I see http://www.mywheels.ie/ is the cheapest web to get a report of the car, is this web reliable?

Some of these dealers mentioned in the horror stories are long established Cork dealers and certainly wouldn't still be trading if they were that bad....issue in the early 90's ! - key to this is if you're not sure get an independent mechanics report, make sure there's a reputable warranty. I'd rather risk a local dealer than DoneDeal.

A lot more risk buying from a private individual on done deal than from a dealer but yes get a mechanic to check things out first. Buyer Beware!

Anyone have any ideas on Blackwater motors on Monaghan Road in the city?

EDIT: This is them. Thinking of buying a car shortly and am considering them. Thanks

They seem to have decent enough reviews and i'm more comfotable buying from a garage instead of privately. Cheers.

Buddy is getting blackrock to sell his car at present . What car you looking at ?

Another buddy bought x2 cars from blackrock. Ran first one for years and years and then bought a fairly recent audi from them

Their premises don't look great but they have been in business a long time.

I think Blackrock sell cars on behalf of people for a fee. I don't think they actually buy cars to sell
