Claregalway secondary school not big enough????

Despite being a new school, part of which is still under construction, it seems that Coláiste Bhaile Chláir Secondary School in Claregalway Corporate Park does not have sufficient places for students, for the school year starting September 2016, despite them being from within the catchment area.

Most of the students affected, as far as I am aware, seem to be from Corrandulla NS.

One would have to question the planning of a school, especially such a new one, when it cannot meet the needs of its catchment area.

With population trends in the area, this problem will only worsen year by year and there is little hope of Corrandulla NS students gaining places in the years to come.

Students will have to attend schools that are further away, and as they are not in the catchment area of any other school, they have no entitlement to school transport.

It is a ridiculous situation. This school is only 3 years in existence and it already fails to meet the needs of the local community.
The required numbers should have been properly planned for.

The school needs to be expanded to cater for those in its catchment area and now while it is still in the building phase.

At a minimum the catchment areas needs redefining so as all students can reasonably expect to go to the school defined by their catchment area and not be faced with the disappointment of being refused a place to the local school where they had expected to go.

Wouldn't the majority of Corrandulla NS students be going to Headford anyway?

The capacity was to be 1,100 if I recall,once full construction was completed.

I think the issue is more to do with the delay in building the school than anything else.
