Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

I have a 6 y/o ****zu. About 2-3 weeks ago he seems to have started licking everything , his bed, the floors, everything. He's licking/ knawing at his paws constantly, one in particular. I've bathed his paw and can't see any injury, Does anyone have any idea if this could be a phase or perhaps an allergy ? TY

Have you changed his food? What does he currently eat? Sounds like he's a bit distressed over something if he's licking so obsessively.

Using a new detergent? Or household cleaner/air freshener?

If you manage to rule these things out I would highly suggest a trip to the vets.

From experience dogs can lick their paws or areas of their bodies if they are in discomfort or pain - so best to check it out with a vet if it is a new behavior.

Thanks a mill, think I'll bring him to the vet to rule anything out!

Yes - I'd think take him to the vets. The fact he's licking stuff indiscriminately, could be an issue with his tongue or mouth?

I do hope he gets sorted. It's horrid when they're not right..

Sorry to hijack your thread but by Jack Russell cross also does this. She's just over a year old. My problem is she has always licked everything. She licks the mat when she lies on it, she licks my clothes if she's on the couch with me, she licks people's hands as they are sitting watching tv. Only recently she has started to gnaw at her legs, I thought it might be mites, my vet has checked and can't find any reason. Any advice would be great

some dogs are just lickers. wouldn't worry about it unless its a new behavior that you can't explain

Yeah - we have a cat that's a licker, but she has been since a kitten.

It's the change in behaviour that needs looking at...

My 7 year old shih tzu has started with the licking thing - not herself though, will lick my back and arm in the morning (yes, she does come up to bed with me!!), she doesn't lick herself to any great extent so not sure maybe if its just a case that she's thirsty first thing - there is water on the ground for her and she will jump down during the night if she's thirsty!
