I'd be expecting more than 3 months warranty on a car like that. That's still a 45k to 50k car when it comes to fixing it.

Have you looked at going to the UK for one and then taking out a warranty here on it?

Just a 3 month warranty. It's being sold by a used car dealer not an authorised BMW dealer.

From my research 23k - 25k seems standard enough for 2012 520d. But I could be mistaken?

I'm thinking that I'll get an independent assessor to look at it for me. Does anyone know if that's worthwhile?

Also any advise on timing chain? Obviously a concern.

Asking prices on donedeal are not necessarily selling prices. It's too dear. Mine came from a franchised (non-BMW) dealer, with a 1 year warranty. I wouldn't touch one with a 3 month warranty at that price. Rear air suspension (all tourings have this) timing chains, turbos and many more things can go wrong on them, especially with high mileage. They're good cars, but at 5 years old with 160,000 km things will need replacing. Does it have a FULL main BMW dealer service history? If not run away as fast as you can, unless you're getting it for less than €20k

Don't know the dealer or anything, ad I wouldn't buy this one personally but this is literally the 2nd result on DoneDeal:

Cheaper, newer and similar mileage. FBMWSH.

I bought a 2008 BMW X5 last year from Sarsfields motors.
Car checked out fine when I went to look at it, got an ok trade in for our Lexus and was happy out.
The car was freshly valeted and running away in the parking lot out back for me to inspect.

The following morning at home I spotted the rear passenger side was sitting way down. Ended up being a slow leak in the rear airbag, which cost over €700 to replace. This would be very evident sitting idle overnight in a forecourt, but they cleverly covered it by running the car and getting the compressor to bring it up to level. Didn't get any joy when I rang to complain. Only engine and gearbox came with 3 months warranty.

Also, I realised on the way home from buying the X5 that I left my Rayban sunglasses in the Lexus, they actually rang to say the same and said they would post them down. No sign of them after a week or two, so rang them. The salesman who I was dealing with and contacted me, said they were on his desk and would send them the next day. A few weeks later, no sign, rang again and he said they could not find them. After many, many phone calls over a few months I just gave up. Even sent one of the people I know in dublin to collect. I think they just decided to keep them.

I would not buy another car or deal with them again.

I know its easy to be smart in hindsight and all that. But if I was going to look at a car and its warm when I arrive there I would be immediately suspicious. If it was actually running that would be a red flag for me.

Edit: Cr@p only noticed now I replied to a post from a year ago.

DO NOT even dream of purchasing a car, especially at that price, without having it independently checked by a bmw specialist...

Do you know any bmw specialist that you would recommend?

Bloomfield motors, BMW specialist looked after mine for a few years until a family member arrived back from Australia .

They were top class, used to be on Bloomfield Avenue, SCR but I know have recently moved to bigger premises not sure where haven't been with them.in a while.

Google them, one of their lads might do it.

bloomfield, gary doyle in chelmsford motors ranelagh, valdis motor confidence, suclly in clontarf meant to be good too. Ideally I would want it back at their place up on ramp, diagnostics run etc...

I had one checked in bloomfield, if I listened to them, Id rebuild the entire car! You are just making sure that it hasnt been in a major accident, nothing major is up with it etc... Of course some stuff might require attention, its a 5 year old car etc...
