I have been employed by my school for 5 years now on full hrs.this is a special school for kids in secure care we follow the primary school year but cater for kids between 12 and 18. Last year I got my cid which I was delighted with ..that was until I realised they would still not pay me over the holidays. I currently sign a commencement form at beginning of sept and get paid up until end if June. I was hoping that once I got my cid I would no longer have to send in hrs every month and thought they would spread my wages over the entire month...This is not the case.
When I query them, them being ddetb , they tell me my case is different because my hrs come from cooperation hrs and therefore I am not entitled to this. My school has 3 permanent teachers and 1550 hrs allocated by the etb half of which I take up wit my cid and the other half my colleague.
Everyone I ask tells me this is wrong but when I ring the etb they baffle me with the ins and out that I end up giving up.
My friend works in a youthreach and she has cid for 13 hrs and is paid all year round. Why can they not just spread my wages over the year. I am not asking for more money. I now face another summer with no pay. It's just not good enough. I feel we are discriminated against because we are a special school and just don't fit into any of the boxes they have.
Any advice or opinions would be great. thanks

Are you a member of the union? This sounds like a case for someone with experience in these areas

I'm TUI. I can't say that everyone in the union is great but they got me an increased CID when my ETB deliberately gave me 17hrs 40 so that I wouldnt be CID'd on full pay. Got my 22 through TUI

You see I understand the rules for secondary but because I'm special school the say the rules don't apply and also something about corporation hours...I just feel that having been working on full hrs for past 5 yrs and now with cid I should be treated the same as anyone else in other schools that hold cid. ..It seem rules for one and not the other...

there might be a better chance if you could network with other teachers in special schools who had/have the same issue. Is there any organisation maybe like ILSA? if the tui aren't any help then im afraid it might be the legal route! (although ive heard there are some employment specialisation law firms that do 'no win no fee' cases!).
    It sounds totally unfair though.

The first thing to realise is that you are not sec school, primary school or youthreach centre. I would like to be finished at 3 like primary teachers but I am not one so I can't expect that. You do however need to establish what exactly you are. This is where both your colleagues and your union come into play-ask the permanent teachers how they are treated. I don't know why you would be an INTO member because they would have no negotiating rights with an ETB unless there is a community primary school. TUI sounds better but you need the right person. Also a CID gives you entitlement for you to have those hours over the last 4 years to be yours and thats what it has given. It gives stability and certainty so you now know those are yours, you unfortunately assumed that a CID would give you more than that certainty.
"Everyone" will always tell you that you should get X and Y but to be honest, if you are a unique type of establishment, then no one, including us here can advise you properly. Also be careful as if you are that unique, you could be easily identified.
Talk to the TUI. If it is cooperation hours (as they were called in the VEC system), then its a difficult one to argue.

Thanks for your reply. Yes they are cooperation hours and that is what the etb tell me when I query this. Just find it very unfair..should have my membership finalised with tui soon so will query it with them.just hoping someone in a similar situation would understand the system better than me.
    Thanks
