    Hi guys,

I bought a 50" Toshiba TV from Pixmania in January 2014. But a fault developed in the screen just over 2 years later and brought it in for repair only to be told the screen is faulty and so not worth replacing.
I thought I was only covered by the 1 year manufacturers warranty and the 2 year electrical EU law but someone else on another thread mentions there is a 6 year law? Both Toshiba and Pixmania tried to fob me off to each other and then got this response form Pixmania:
    Thank you for contacting Pixmania.

I am sorry to hear that the TV has gone faulty.

Please be advised that as this item was purchased on 2014-01-05, it is now more than 2 years and the item us thus not covered by the 2-year warranty anymore.
However, even though it was covered, we would be unable to take the item back for repairs due to Pixmania company issues. If item returned, there would be a chance you would not get the item back, nor the money.

We would thus kindly advise you to contact the manufacturer once again as they may be able to help.

My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    Kindest regards,

Reading between the lines, looks like Pixmania could be closing down. Also, does anyone know where I can go form here?
    Thanks

They are nearly bankrupt according to this report: http://www.retaildetail.eu/en/news/pixmania-borders-edge-bankruptcy

€20 million in losses last year alone.

They were always leaning towards the dodgy side of things with disastrous customer service so there's just as much chance some genius in their office thought this was a clever way to cut down on paperwork.

Yep. Their customer service really was terrible. But I doubt they'd use such an excuse. Unless management are taking the piss too.

Funnily enough Dixons used to own them. They also are a dreadful retailer.

Are they not a french company, I wouldn't imagine the 6 year Irish law applies to them

The 6 year limitation on the sale of goods act is Irish law.

Pixmania started off as a French mail order company specialising in digital cameras - hence the name. I bought several items from them in the early days and they were very good to deal with. They were owned by a company called Fotovista.

Fotovista was taken over in 2006 by DSG, the parent company of Dixons/Currys/PC World whose bean counters decided that they could save money by moving the customer care centre to Romania after which the level of service took a nose-dive. Persistent adverse publicity in the UK press and consumer TV programs about their crap service caused DSG to dump offload sell the business in 2013, it's now owned by a German holding company called Multares but I suspect the brand name is fatally wounded.

I remember I bought a motherboard off them a few years ago, it was DOA and they told me I would have to send it back to the manufacturers.

    They were based in Taiwan.

They sent me an empty box once

After sending them photos of it, etc, they decided that "just this once" they'd give me a new one as "your postman stole it". The box looked sealed to me so I doubted that.

The replacement item when it arrived WOULDN'T HAVE FIT IN THE FIRST SODDING BOX.

They actually posted me a completely empty box.
