I don't think the constant betting odds updates are necessary are they?!

They are going to be shifting a lot for the next few hours, only 32 results are in out of 382.

    Good modding post.

It needs something radical to stop others looking to leave.

The EU will take the same approach as they did to the bailouts for Ireland, Greece and Portugal. Make the terms so terrible, so harmful, so wrong headed that the no one else will want anything like that deal.

The naivete of the Leave campaign is that they believe the EU will give them good terms - it entirely in the interests of the EU to ensure the UK gets terms that are bad enough to ensure no one else looks to leave.

    Betting suspended on Betfair.

How does Betfair indicate anything about how Brexit will go? Surely the market is being dictated by the money that is being bet on, which has no correlation to the votes that have yet to be counted/announced?

GBP would want to start buying lubricant.

The real tragedy if the Brits decide to leave, is that we will still hear the word "Brexit" for a while yet.

2.2 million votes in and with 37/382 declared, there still hasn't been a good surprise for Remain.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,224 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

To be fair there is significant money in the betting markets, over 100 million on bet fair. It's as good an indicator to the result as any.

    f*ck....

That means that British exports will start to look more attractive to foreign customers, while domestically produced goods and services might fare better vs imports..

    Who would want that?

Yeah, the best part about a Remain vote is that the whole Brexit news cycle would end. If Brexit wins, then it will be the main UK story for the next 2 years as reality increasingly dawns on them.

    So?

Does that mean it is necessary to shoot the load every time the odds change?

I agree, I said that to leave people on twitter. They just said well we should leave if they would treat us that way...
But it is like Greece, they took a hard line and ended up with no banks, so had to back down.
So they will do as you say, the UK will have to be made an example of if they leave.

    Should I Sell, Sell, Sell??

What is with the constant updates? Should you not be posting that on the Investments thread??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,953 ✭✭✭duffman13

    Nope... the votes are.

Yeah but the votes aren't counted, betting patterns can often indicate a swing in results however I agree live betting updates are not a good marker at such an early stage. Early reaction to a few exit calls can make people who have heavily backed remain getting twitchy.

It indicates what the markets believe the result will be.

Apparently this is down on projections :pac:

The swing in odds over the past half hour is a pretty big deal to be fair. It's not like people have been giving updates on the odds for the past few weeks.
