But a Brexit probably would too.

Not even the DUP or the likes of Jim Allister want a hard border. Really can't see why it would come about. If the EU pushed for that they would be making us suffer.

Not necessarily. Sweden/Norway is probably the way it'd go.
I'd expect random checks and the closing of minor crossings but not hard border.

Not true. Norway and Sweden are both in Schengen.

They are both in Schengen and have free movement of people!!!!

At least Nigel Farage will not be using the Irish flag as a table cloth again.

Where would you put the border to prevent free movement of EU citizens into the UK?

Euro to Sterling is on its way to 82p per €. I bought it yesterday afternoon at 75p :(

It may not be a case of what they want but what is a consequence of the result.

Immigration is a key issue in this vote.

If they exit and want to control immigration, how can they do so with an open porous border with Ireland?

That's a good thing. How does that harm the UK economy ? great for jobs and exports !

This is making me very glad I left my old job and went back to college. The engineering firms in my area will have a very difficult path ahead of them when the UK leaves the EU. Shame about the local economy too, as we depend on those firms.

Currency devaluations like that are usually signs of probems not fortunes.

Hmm you said that about ireland earlier...

Exports will likely fall for them as tariffs will be applied to none EU membes plus raw materials they need to import will be more expensive

They'll probably restrict the crossing points between the north and england like ferry ports and airports. Trying to restrict the border itself would probably be too costly tbh.

That being said its more than likely there might be a vote at some point on the border which could lead to a united ireland as well. Loyalists will make a fuss but tbh they might not be as big about the whole thing if they find staying with england is not as financially sound as uniting with the republic.

Edit: leave vote is approaching a 600k lead its looking more and more like england is gonna say "feck yo couch" to the EU.

No they won't. The only people talking about a hard border are Remain scaremongers. And it looks like some of them will soon be out of Government. Nobody is advocating a hard border. Nobody in Britain, nobody in Ireland and nobody in "Europe".

Bad for imports which last I checked were larger than exports. Currency dropping is usually seen as a bad thing.

So UK citizens will need a passport to travel within their own jurisdiction?

Ireland should join Schengen if there's a Brexit.

We will in our bollocks. No way, not after the stunt Merkel pulled in 2015. Ireland should be building a fortress to keep low-skilled/poorly-educated immigrant, so we can avoid ghettos and mass sex assaults a la Cologne.

We end in the same mess as the UK, with immigrants coming looking for free housing, welfare and free healthcare. No-one should enter Ireland looking for a council house, they should only come in to fill in job applications.

Given what happened last week, that is in exceptionally bad taste.

    What are you talking about?

They want to reduce the number of people allowed to enter, we can't do that as part of Europe, we have a land border it will need to be controlled.

If Britain don't want Free Movement, they'll need one. Its simple.
