I was reading earlier that Canadian bank notes (apart from being more durable as they're a plastic/paper hybrid) have the demonination in Braille on them.

Was this ever considered in the design of euro notes, and if not, why not?

Probably easier/more economic to just differentiate by size. Decent idea though.

The new Euro notes have raised lines on the left hand side, with continuous lines on the fiver, one gap for the tenner, two for the twenty note, etc.

The edges of the coins are different also,

Older ones have raised lines also, although they're not as pronounced as the newer ones. They're also used as an anti-counterfeit measure.

Braille dots on notes wouldn't last too long with all the rollers they go through on cash machines, counters etc. but they are on some notes.
