Odd ipv6 issue with eircom d1000 modem

I am typically connecting to internet at home via a three.ie/3g mifi device.
However, today I switched to use our aDSL modem/router (Zyxel d1000) because there were some network issues with 3.ie.

Anyhow... I realised soon that I had a DNS issue.
My son connects to this eircom aDSL via wifi with no issue.
However, when I checked the DNS setting coming back via dhcp on my iMac and smartphone from the eircom modem/router it was an ipv6 address.
It looks like the ipv6 address of the modem itself.

I managed to workaround this by overriding the dhcp assigned dns.
However, any idea why this may happen ?

Please move to most appropriate broadband/midband forum if I have posted to the wrong one.
