Here we go again. Chapter one started with 3 participants and the standings are as follows

    21 pts Neady83
    13 pts sconhome
    9 pts shotgunmcos

Even though a Mod selected the Big Hill Challenge, alas he didn't join in.. boooo

Neady83 will be along to describe the February Challenge goal in a while but for now the format is the same.

Pick between 1 and 7 goal activities and how many hours (min 30 mins) you intend to spend doing those very things.

And/Or decide if you are going to do the monthly challenge (a la Neady83) as your only or additional goal. No need for tables.. we can put it on Gdocs like January, which was cool.. thank you sconhome!

So to kick off my February goals are

    Goal1 - Run on/off road for 8hrs
    Goal2 - MTB & Hike a Bike for 4hrs
    Goal3 - Erg or Paddle for 10hrs
    Goal4 - Roadie/Turbo for 10hrs
    Goal5 - Trek/Orienteer for 4hrs
    Goal6 - Swim for 5hrs
    Goal7 - S&C for 4hrs
    Goal8 - Neady83's fun but sadistic challenge
    All in 44hrs+

    How do you score?

    Gold = 3pts, Silver = 2pts, Bronze = 1pt

    Gold
    • Complete Neady's challenge
    • Be first of an activity that has at least 3 doing it
    • Set a goal that is bigger than what you have actually done in any previous month and hit it (this month only applies to January participants)
    Silver
    • Be first of any activity with just 2 participants
    • Set a goal and hit double the number.
    Bronze
    • Be the only person to do an activity and log at least an hour of it
    • Set and complete a any goal
    • Finish 2nd of only 2 people doing an activity
    • Finsh 3rd of 3 or more people doing an activity
Its just a bit of craic but I'm going to rope sconhome into sponsoring a little prize for the overall winner at the end of the year (I'll go halves Chief)

The only fast rule is that you must set your goals asap and once you set them thats it. No adding a new activity in the last week for a free bronze!

Plus no need for tables, just list your goal activities and how long you plan to spend doing them... simples :)

sorry Mike, combination of sickness at the start of the month, new job, kids going through a tough patch, and as you said i didn't do my own challenge, even though i meant to.

i'll get involved this month though. need to get a bit of extra S&C work done and this is the perfect way to do it

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,235 ✭✭✭Solobally8

Ok I'll have some of this action :)

    Goal 1: Run on/off road 8 hrs
    Goal 2: Roadie/Turbo 25 hrs

I only started back running (actually waddling) in January for a paltry 3.5 hours so 8 will be a big step up for me! I'm still half arsed cycling so the 25 hours is a reasonable goal for me to get back into the swing of things.

Goal 3 is weight related (whats new!) I want to lose at least 4lbs in February

Thanks for setting this up Mike :)

    Goal 1 - run 27 hours
    Goal 2 - swim 9 hours
    Goal 3 - road biking 8 hours
    Goal 4 - turbo 4 hours
    Goal 5 - S&C 4 hours
    Goal 6 - Neady's plank challenge thing (should help with goal 5 :) )

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

    Thanks SB and RC welcome!

The original rule was once you posted your goals you cannot edit. However since Neady83 hasn't called the mad Feb challenge yet you can opt in to that if you like when she does. It will be an all or nothing gold.

Whoops, sorry guys, I missed this. Em so I have two ideas:

    1. 5mins of planks every day for the remainder of the month. This does not have to be 5mins in one go, it can be spread throughout the day but you have to do 5mins each day.

    2. This is one that the dude in the gym made us do this morning. Put on the song Roxanne, get into the push up plank position and every time you hear Roxanne you do a half burpee (don't stand up) and when you hear red light, you do a push up. Do this every day for the remainder of Feb?

Sorry peeps, I'm useless at this stuff.

    Cheers Mike :) here goes

    Goal 1 - Run on/off road for 24hrs
    Goal 2 - MTB & Hike a Bike for 7hrs
    Goal 3 - Roadie/Wattbike for 22hrs
    Goal 4 – Kayak for 1hr
    Goal 5 - Hike for 4hrs
    Goal 6 – Circuits/S&C for 10.5hrs
Goal 7 – Zany Feb challenge
Total of 68.5hrs (ok this isn’t possible but a girl can dream :))

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Ok so 2 options for the Feb zany challenge

Listen to Roxanne 27 times performing half burpees and push ups as per Neady

    Or

Clock 2hrs 20 min total in plank position. I'm opting for this one.. :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,038 ✭✭✭Neady83

Awesome, I'm opting for the Plank too, we'll have rock hard abs by the end of Feb.

You could mix it up and do it with:

AC/DCs Thunderstruck. Buzzwords: Thunder and Thunderstruck
Neil Diamonds America. Buzzwords: America and Today
    or
Mobys Flower. Buzzwords: Bring Sally up and bring Sally down

Just to quantify Neady83's February Challenge options

    The "Plank" version
2hrs 20 mins total in plank

    The "Roxanne" version
1hr 30 total in plank, 702 half burpees and 675 push ups and the feeling of groundhog day every time you play it

    The choice is yours...

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 8,766 Mod ✭✭✭✭mossym

okay. I'm in. here are the goals for the month

    Goal 1:Bike: 20 Hours
    Goal 2:Run: 12 hours
    Goal 3:Swim: 8 Hours
Goal 4: I'll take the plank only challenge Bob for 2hr 20
Goal 5: 3 hours of S&C outside of the plank challenge
    Goal 6: 2 hours rolling.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

Based on last month there are targets I'll get and ones that are training time dependent around fixed schedules. But I'd better shadow himself

    Goal1 - Run on/off road for 10hrs
    Goal2 - MTB & Hike a Bike for 4hrs
    Goal3 - Erg or Paddle for 10hrs
    Goal4 - Roadie/Turbo for 10hrs
    Goal5 - Trek/Orienteer for 4hrs
    Goal6 - Swim for 6hrs
    Goal7 - S&C for 2hrs
Goal8 - Plank 2.5hrs (supposed to be in 30 mins blocks so all ye 2:20's will be DQ'd ;) )

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 20,366 Mod ✭✭✭✭RacoonQueen

Just realised I now have to do 5 mins of planks this evening. Crap.

Sorry that was me. I started the Feb sheet on a study break last night. I had mushy peas for a brain..

Is it ok if I dont do the plank challenge? I still have lots of bother with my shoulder so it might put too much pressure on it.

Of course its an optional thing. The whole point of this is to pick whatever goal activities you like. Nice to have you on board :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,468 ✭✭✭sconhome

First bit of planking tonight after my first run in over a month. Expect to feel it tomorrow.

Feb planking + Lent = abs baby :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Who is GNR? Welcome. Just made the bonuses even harder to get now. 100 mins plank is short tho. No gold for that!

The rest of us know each other IRL (or Twitter) but I didn't want to 'out' him.

Pulled something in my calf. No running for a few days for me. I doubt I'll be making my run goal this month

Sorry to hear that A, how is it now?

I was delighted to see your name pop up in here. It was only in the last few weeks that I came across your log and read through it. You're a fantastic cyclist, I'm so sorry about all the mishaps on the bike, it's sh**te luck. I probably saw you cycle once- my home down in Clare is on the Cotter and Crotty Cup route and we usually go down to the bottom of the road :)

Thanks Neady, that's very flattering :) I loved that race. Such a warm friendly welcome. If I ever get back racing, it will definitely be on my to-do list. We definitely have to organise a mid-west/whest boardsie get together. Maybe in July when RaccoonQueen visits me for the Lough Derg sprint.

Calf is still a bit tender but I haven't tried running yet so will know more next week when I try.
