EI249 enroute from Gatwick earlier did the EI238, usually this aircraft does the LGW-NOC-LGW but this was canx. So the aircraft and crew sat on the ground at LGW for 5 hours. Bet that crew got seriously board and can't wait to get home, let's see what the wind says

FR119 and FR6394 requesting climb as it's quite choppy in their current location.
All inbound aircraft inbound to holds.

  • Registered Users Posts: 687 ✭✭✭pfurey101

It's going to get busy in the hold over the next 15 mins!

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

FR7157 MAD-DUB not even entering the hold, diverting to Shannon.
FR1959 NCE-DUB going to do a round at KERAV and then divert to Shannon.

Any chance the EI planes coming in will fare better in current conditions? Remembering last year the A320's landing had less issues than Ryanair during bad weather.

In the current wind (230 degrees 33kts gusting 50kts) the inbound Aer Lingus cannot land either. FR1959 NCE-DUB electing to ditch the hold and head straight to Shannon now too.

The Airbus has a higher crosswind limit of 38kts, if the wind is from 230 degrees they can take a gust upto 49kts.

There are 2 FRs in holding pattern off Howth. Never seen that before.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,774 ✭✭✭Bsal

EIN24K is going to make an approach.

Gust dropped to 47kts and EI making an approach!

I've seen it before in events of the aircraft being told to hold at short notice for a short period, eg FOD on runway, aircraft unable to vacate etc. I think it's referred to as the LAPMO hold.

EI-DVE looks to be Cork bound as EI993

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Back up to 50kt and both Aer Lingus aircraft cannot make approaches again. Ryanair have a crosswind limit of 33kts (EI 38kts on A320's), they can take up to 51kts of a gust from 240, however it's switching between both.

    Currently holding:
    FR119 (RYR1ZP) LGW-DUB
    FR6394 (RYR5QT) BCN-DUB (Landed)
    EI249 (EIN24K) LGW-DUB
    EI407 (EIN40W) FCO-DUB
    FR7033 (RYR85CV) FAO-DUB
    FR1902 (RYR8ND) KRK-DUB
    FR7359 (RYR73W) BRI-DUB
    FR9435 (RYR773B) CIA-DUB
    FR271 (RYR88FN) STN-DUB
    FR1977 (RYR49WY) RIX-DUB
    FR447 (RYR7EK) LPL-DUB

FR6394 (RYR5QT) BCN-DUB made an approach and landed.

    What was the wind check?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

    What was the wind check?

    Was 240 degrees 33 G 50kts,

Wind now back to 230 degrees, now gusting to 53kts, out of limits for Ryanair now on both 230 degrees and 240 degrees, out of limits for Aer Lingus with the direction 230.

FR119 on approach, however a go-around is possible.
    UPDATE: Yup, FR119 (RYR1ZP) LGW-DUB going around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

    FR1977 (RYR49WY) RIX-DUB
    FR447 (RYR7EK) LPL-DUB

Both of the above are new additions to the hold.

FR447 LPL-DUB seems to be going direct Shannon

Edit: Maybe not.. in the hold now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,774 ✭✭✭Bsal

I wonder why Dublin hasn't got instantaneous wind readouts like they do in the UK. In conditions like this instant wind would be much more preferable than the 2min average.

    Would it?

In any case, is it not the gust that's the deciding factor and not the 2min avg?

Gust now down to 48kts, aircraft will soon make approaches.

Requested no more wind checks as the current wind is good for them.

Is that them telling ATC that they don't want to hear it incase it increases again?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

    FR7033 (RYR85CV) FAO-DUB going around.

Windshear warning at 50-100ft, requesting a hold at LAPMO again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,774 ✭✭✭Bsal

Windshear reported at Shannon so not a great option for diversion, Cork 240@12 better option

EINN WS WRNG 01 162240 VALID 162240/170040 MOD WS IN APCH RWY24 OBS AT 2230 LOSS OF BETWEEN 10 AND 15 KNOTS BELOW 500 FEET=

    EI249 (EIN24K) LGW-DUB has gone around also.

    +-25kts on short finals

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

FR119 (RYR1ZP) LGW-DUB has landed on second attempt.

    FR9435 (RYR773B) CIA-DUB diverting to SNN.
