Now, that's an interesting one. I can only imagine the sound of it from a low(ish) altitude.

I see Irish 264 and 267 are currently over the UK. With 264 just north of Liverpool, any ideas where there off to?

Looks like they are heading for LBA

thought so as well, seem to have bypassed it, maybe RAF Linton-On-Ouse?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,220 ✭✭✭cameramonkey

RAF Linton-on-Ouse is a busy flight training airfield so maybe that is it.
They seem to be descending in that direction.

well 264 seems to have made an about turn, maybe they are heading back to LBA. Linton-On-Ouse or dishford would make more sense mind you, being training fields.....I'm sure time will tell lol!

A Norwegian B789 on LGW-BOS diverted into Dublin earlier this evening. It got going again soon after so was presumably just medical.

How did it get so far into it's journey before that fact came to light?

It would be great to know when its leaving, just to hear the sound of those engines on full power for takeoff.

A Cavok Air AN-12 departed Dublin for Vigo a few moments ago. It flew over my house, but wasn't as loud as I thought it would be.

It appears to have flight-planned to SNN originally.

Due to SNN originally but diverted to Dublin due to fog in SNN.

Really? Was talking to a friend on the ground at SNN and they said they never heard anything about it inbound.

That, coupled with the fact it didn't go near or descend for Shannon made me quite sure.

    Looking at the weather, (EINN 040300Z 25002KT 0800 R24/1400N R06/1300U FG FEW001 BKN003 06/05 Q1035 NOSIG), it looks okay for CAT I/CAT II, I assume they didn't have ILS?

Yes, heard it soon after takeoff, distinctive deep engine note. Nice to hear.

I attached the audio maybe you can make sense of why they diverted .

    Yup was weather.

Strange to divert so quickly, conditions were fine for CAT I, I assume that they didn't have ILS capability.

Their last interaction with SNN mentioned "temperature" as the reason to divert to Dublin, their last weather and rvr from SNN indicated deterioration.
Since it didn't seem to matter that they go to Dublin it was only refuelling?

With SNN RVRs as low as 500m (though they were improving) and after a flight from Bangor ME I doubt they wanted to spend much time trying to get into SNN, especially with Dublin visibility at 10km. Shannon was definitely the original destination.
