Apparently due to winds in LHR at the moment.

LHR operates at 100% capacity and when inclement weather hits they reduce arrival capacity (from one arrival per 40 seconds to one per 60 seconds per se). So instead of having a bunch of aircraft holding they "select" a number of lucky flights in advance and amend their slot.

News reporting the BA 747 had a slight technical issue with the rudder which reduced there capability of a crosswind landing in LHR.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,564 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

What would happen to the passengers in this case? Did BA fly in another plane, or try to sort the technical hitch?

Yes by doing things like stopping aircraft taking off from Dublin or Paris, not by diverting an in-air 747 from Las Vegas.

BA flew in an A321 from LHR with engineers on board and the passengers continued to LHR on the A321

Edit: 747 now on its way to LHR as BAW274F

    It's likely a test flight

Apropos of nothing and in a completely useless stat, I've been building up a flight history for myself using sites like The Lingus Source and Casper Flights, and it would appear that I've been a passenger on all current Aer Lingus A320s except the two ex-Aeroflot frames added to the fleet in 2017 (EI-GAM and EI-GAL). I should find something better to do with my life...

EI-DAI appears to have just done a go around, any ideas why?

(TC-JHZ may have had something to do with it?)

Maybe they should do an inclement weather take off test flight now, I'm quite sure it will occur once the plane is in service :pac:

    Diverting to Dublin now.

Was in the hold for 48 minutes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,417 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Where were the Knock flights all diverted to? I see that one Dublin but surely the rest would go to SNN?

BA have suspended all flights to and from China. Just watching BA27 coming in to HKG but nothing else inbound to China. Wonder will they continue HKG, given it’s not mainland.

Few flights inbound to the UK - Shanghai and Beijing just crossed into Russia north of Mongolia. Wonder will there be a rush of expats who decided to wait and see now deciding if the options are closing to try get a seat with other airlines, can’t see BA being the final word on this.

British guy interviewed on BBC radio this morning three hours away from Wuhan said all the roads were sealed and he had little chance of getting out anyway. Then a Professor who specialises in viruses said that it was a huge mistake to airlift "foreigners" out of China and only Australia had the right idea of quarantining them all on an island until they are cleared to return home.

Talk of BA not resuming flights to China until March.

I believe the Americans are gonna hold everyone at an Air Force base in California for the incubation period. I’d be surprised if other countries don’t follow that and the Australian model.

BA did the ban on back of foreign office advice. US state department has already advised no travel, wonder when US carriers will pull the plug.
