Just noticed 4 Google Loon balloons for the first time. Over South Africa, Argentina, Chile and Nevada. All above 50,000ft. Put BALLOON into the registration search.

Edit: A fifth had just appeared at the Argentina-Bolivia border!

What cargo does it carry these days?

I'd put money on it being a cargo of horses into/out of Shannon.

Strange routing from the Carribean to Madrid. Usually aircraft can be seen routing over the Mid Atlantic. Any reason for this?

Could it be something to do with reduced EPTOS?

Possibly reduced ETOPS. Inbd flight could have had a defect. Thought it might be a pack issue but it wouldn't be at FL410 if that was the case.

Too much of a detour for winds? The jetstream is heading south from the arctic.

Imagine you're a pax on that flight....you settle in, have the meal, a few glasses of wine, maybe a few more shots, settle down to sleep, wake up half-way home, look out the window and see a snow-covered Greenland landscape 41,000 ft. below.....you'd be perfectly correct to feel you'd got on the wrong plane.......or had a few too many.
