I have a pc with Windows 8 on an SSD and my files on a separate hard drive. I bought a piece of music equipment that only works with windows 7. I may have to install Windows 7 also to be able to use it. What the easiest way to do this?

Use a VM if you've a strong PC, VirtualBox is free and does me when I need one.

Install VB, set up a new VM, set Virtual Hard Drive size and select your Windows 7 ISO, install like normal and bait away

Ohh thanks I had not thought of that, might be a great idea. My PC is a Dell XPS, i5, 8gb ram, would that do the trick?

    It's a dj controller: http://www.m-audio.com/products/view/torq-dj#.VrDkifmLTRY

They only made driers for Windows 7 - does not seem to be version or Win 8.

I'll have a try in compatibility mode but if not hopefully a virtual box will work. I have not used virtual boxes before But I have seen them - hopefully its straight forward.

Ah, what you want is ASIO4ALL drivers,

I have an M-Audio Mbox 2 from around 10/11 years ago designed for XP/Vista and it has worked flawlessly with ASIO drivers on 7/8/8.1 and now 10.

    Should work.

Oh really? How do they work exactly? Do I just install them in place of the Xponent drivers?

In general if it's a USB device VM's are a great way to go since things like VirtualBox can hand over control of the USB port to the virtual machine.
