Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Former Derry City player Mark Farren passed away today, after a long battle with cancer. He was just 33 years old.

Very sad news. He was getting treatment in a specialist clinic, with which a lot of the LoI family helped, but unfortunately it wasn't enough.

Saw him play a number of times and he was a fantastic player. 114 goals in in 209 games for Derry. The club's all-time top-scorer. That's some going, considering he left Derry at 30 and retired at 31 due to his illness.

There are posts about this in the general thread, but I think a Derry and League of Ireland legend like Farren deserves more than a passing mention in a "rumours and gossip" section.

    May he rest in peace.

Terribly sad. What a player. In his pomp there wasn't a fan in the country who wouldn't want him at their club. Brilliant.

    RIP Mark. Far too young.

I remember him making his comeback to football against us in the showgrounds. Joey Ndo scored a cracker, and the cheers were as loud when Farren was being introduced. Great day.

    RIP Very sad news.

One of the best finishers I've watched in LOI. Seems to have been a universally much liked guy too from all the comments around the country.

    Sad day.

I was only thinking recently that I hadn't heard of any updates about him lately. Very sad news and so very young too.

To be the top goalscorer at a club that had Liam Coyle up front for 10+ years is no mean feat. A great player with a career and life cut far too short.

    RIP
