On Friday a number of his posters were defaced with the words "Tax Defaulter"

    Not surprised.

I know Willie O'Dea is liked in Limerick but jesus I didn't think he would be romping away with it like that.
A bit sickening to be honest. He is parish pump politics incarnate.

Is his brother running for election?
Too busy being a criminal and an IRA member.

EDIT: Sorry he was a criminal and was in the IRA, not is. Totally not like that anymore. His brother knew nothing about it either, completely innocent.

Well if he's too busy doing other things and not running for election then why are we discussing him in the Limerick GE thread.

Whatever. IRA and Sinn Fein are two sides of the same coin. Just as Maurice and Nessan are two faces of the same family.

Anyway, better not say any more. I value my kneecaps.

Shocking results in Limerick so far for FG.

Latest tallies from Limerick city with 41% of boxes opened #ge2016

Prendiville is doing well, but at the end of the day I don't think he'll get the transfers.

A lot of that will depend on where the boxes that are opened are from as the areas will vary widely. If the boxes already opened are from AAA 'strongholds' then even Prenderville's first preferences will go lower and a few boxes from Corbally could push O'Sullivan ahead of him, as that's her home area. But if there are still numerous boxes from more working class areas to be opened and Corbally ones are already included in the tallies Prenderville could gain a stronger lead. It's still quite up in the air at this point, though my gut says O'Sullivan will take a lot of Hennelley's second preferences and take the fourth seat.

What is likely is that O'Dea will take the first seat and Noonan will take the second or third depending on when O'Donnell is eliminated. And Quinlivan is also almost certainly in.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Limerick Leader website can't cope with all the traffic this morning! Big interest locally, even if RTÉ haven't mentioned us much!

Well it looks like O'Donnell still has a chance after all as he's galloped ahead in the tallies. And Prenderville has fallen behind O'Sullivan. I'd say O'Sullivan will get more transfers from O'Dea than O'Donnell and she'll get more of the SD second preferences. Unless Quinlivan has lots of transfers and they all go to Prenderville I'd say he has very little hope at this point. (Though unless I'm wrong about the SD transfers and a lot go to him I'd say it will be more like Quinlavin benefiting from Prendervilles.) It will probably be between O'Sullivan and O'Donnell for the fourth seat.

Though it could end up being between Quinlavin and O'Sullivan for the fourth but that is too much like the darkest timeline for me to contemplate. :(

There calling niall collins, Tom Neville and Patrick o donovan for the county on Live 95Fm. FFS, what a terrible bunch of representatives for us. Tom Neville getting in purely on the back of his father's career. Nepotism alive and well in limerick county.

If you want to go there, Alan Kelly's brother is into water privatisation.

Will we drop the "look what the family members do" now ?

Cue press release from O'Donovan "welcoming" something or other.....

I agree, I'm no Sinn Fein supporter, quite the opposite, but my blood was boiling reading that posters contributions to this thread.

Poor old IRA /Sinn Fein. Misunderstood. The bombs were meant to help people. We are semtex socialists. If the problem doesn't go away we will blow it up. Tiocfiadh ar la. Brits out. Up the ra. Gerry Adams for Taoiseach.

I said I do not support Sinn Fein, I would never vote for them in a million years and think it would be a travesty if they ever got into government.
But you are spouting rubbish on this thread and it is completely unrelated to the election, we are not our brothers keepers.

Nessan Quinlivan is scum. That's for sure. Your opinion is that Maurice is not responsible for his brother being that way? Fair enough. Fact is that the connection between the PIRA and Sinn Fein is as strong as ever.

Back to the adult conversation and Limerick Post is now reporting a mere 24 votes between O'Sullivan & Quinlivan with 4 candidates and 3 seats left.

I think the transfer of Cian Prendiville's votes should be enough to see Maurice over the line.

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

They've to distribute about 6700 of Cian Prendiville's votes. A lot, I imagine, will go to Quinlivan, which will probably bring him over the line, but O'Donnell is only about 170 votes ahead of O'Sullivan, so it's going down to the wire.
I assume whoever loses will request a recount if there's only a small few votes in the difference.

Hoping to see Jan squeeze in above Noonan and would love to see O'Donnell make it before his running mate! :D

Would be some shock if O'Donnell got in ahead of Noonan and if Jan retains her seat it would be a miracle. With her views on the 8th amendment I'd like to see her get back in.

Its a cliffhanger, result due within the hour as per the Leader. They are doing a good job covering it on twitter.

  • Moderators Posts: 3,554 ✭✭✭Wise Old Elf

The Leader have been good all day.
They're now saying there may be a further count as Prendiville's votes may bring Quinlivan past the quota, and therefore there may be a surplus to distribute.
