Vista to Win 7 with MAR CD

Hi Stupidly stayed with Vista too long and now seems too late to upgrade as Microsoft seem to have blocked off all access to Win 7 and above without paying arm & leg. Question: I have a Win 7 disc for use with with a refurbished PC, would it be possible to use this to upgrade from Vista??
