    Hi,

just a quick one on the licence fee: I am reading the comreg website that the initial licence is 100€ and any amedment will cost 30€ each time. Is an amendment eg. a change in adress or a pass on the morse code test etc.?

    Thanks,

    Christian

Yes, an amendment is a change of station address or an application for a change in the licence conditions

Thanks! Is the morse code test organized by comreg or IRTS? I understand it´s 5WPM, is it 5er-groups? Would keying with a paddle be possible or straight key only?

The test is organised by IRTS, if considering doing the morse test this can be arranged in advance for most radio rallies.

The test morse is generally sent at 12WPM with farnsworth spacing to 5WPM, If learning morse then it's worth learning it as a usable skill as it's rather good fun, rather than 'just enough to pass the test'

I am not sure if you can use a paddle for the sending portion of the test, best to check with the IRTS on that.

I use a single lever paddle myself, having weaned myself off an Iambic paddle last year.

the Course here http://lcwo.net/ is good
this free Ebook is very good also

An article on Single lever Keying vs Iambic
    http://www.morsex.com/pubs/iambicmyth.pdf

I make less mistakes with the Single lever than I did with the Iambic at higher speeds (25+ WPM)

Nice find and interesting read so far. Currently struggling with the koch method but some useful tips in this.

Speaking of the licence, I remember reading somewhere that we're required to reconfirm every 5 years or so, is that still the case? I haven't received any reminder from this from ComReg, I hope I'm not too late with it.

They email/write to you when you are 3 months from the 5 year limit.

You can confirm your details online.

Thanks!! I just looked up my old emails and found that I did actually get it mid last year and sorted it at the time. It was just so quick to do it that I didn't remember :)

    Sorry for the bother.

I takes a long time, well at least for me...

Currently I am learning the words at 30wpm but long pauses. To be fair I am only listening 10-15minutes to it in the car each day, so currently not putting too much effort in it.

Is there a dedicated irish hamradio website/board existing?

30wpm :o i would be happy with 15. Over 10 - 12 seems to be the key as you are learning by sound and not the visualization of dah dih dih
