I’ve been using Rural WiFi now for two years, with the modem forced to 3G it was fine, 6-12mb.

Last week it dropped to sub 1mb and I can’t see why, nonsupport as I’m out of contract. And they have no support anyway, it either works or it doesnt.

Am on waiting list for Imagine as local mast is full, neighbors getting 45-50mb down all the time.

Rural Wi Fi use the three network, 4g here is completely congested, up to now the 3G was grand.

Seanie has a fleet of vans driving in convoy around central Dublin this morning advertising his 5G product. A fleet of vans driving around in circles for hours is a very apt metaphor for this shower of chancers.

Imagine are really proud of those vans alright. Forget about internet speeds, contention issues, stability, customer service and support when shooting videos of a fleet of vans leaving some car park really warms peoples hearts to an expensive wireless product!

My speeds were crap the last few nights too. Same mast as you. I emailed them about it and asked me to ring in and troubleshoot but I just couldn't be bothered. I've already done everything they'd ask me.

I only got 20mb last night which is workable but nowhere near as good as it used to be.

It's the same product they "launched" today. They just received investment so that they can expand.

Nobody has asked the most important question. Is J.J Thompson coming back?

Any idea if all new masts are going to be this 5G? Signed up a few weeks ago and our new mast went live today and I'm just waiting on being connected

So it says my eircode can get the 5g. I'm currently in contract with them. For next 6 months. I'm in Knockraha near glanmire. Wonder is it worth the upgrade. I could certainly use a speed bump. It's rubbish currently in the evening. If I could get a stable 20mbps between 5pm and 9pm I would consider it. Fibre should be available soon. Next 6 months maybe.

only if there is a way to post without having to actually join Facecrook!

** unless its unlimited with a 20GB/day fair use policy.....

Fair usage is 1TB per month so about 33GB per month.

A technical question for the experts here. Clearly, 4G broadband is limited, once the number of active users being served by a given mast reaches a certain level. So, Imagine are going with 5G. Which everybody here says will have the same limitation as the 4G masts (might be an improvement, but will still reach saturation and slow to a crawl at peak usage times).

What is the cause of this limitation? Is it something inherent in the capacity of 4G/5G, or is it caused by limitations of the fibre supplying the masts?

For example, say a 5G mast has a catchment of 400 houses, within range and line of sight. If the fibre back haul serving that mast has the capacity to supply 150 Mbits second to all 400 houses simultaneously, could a 5G mast be designed to cope with that demand?

If not, then Imagine are bluffing.

How do you know what the upgrade areas are ?

BYW - I don't think they are really enforcing the limit any more. My XBox One decided to do a load of upgrades recently and the usage for the day for my house was 46GB and there was no email / throttling......
