    Those traces are reaching

    89.127.198.248

which is an Imagine IP and not google.

    What is the explanation?

Sorry, look at my post above.
    89.127.198.248 is Google.ie.#
Imagine seems to be routing just fine, mine however is not (via my ISP):

I think it's a cache server, similar to how ISPs host YouTube cache servers.

For example, if you go to http://89.127.198.248/ it brings up the Google homepage. ;)

    Thanks.
So maybe a better test might be
    traceroute 172.217.23.3

Ah yeah, it seems to be a cache server on imagines end. Anyway, point of the matter is my ISP is routing all over the place. Imagine is not. This is good. :)

This is all gobbledygook to me and I think the less I know about it the better

It's something that won't affect 99% of users. It's just that being in the 1% is frustrating because you're more easily ignored/fobbed off.

    Well not quite yet...

Still waiting for installation. I'm hopeful because I can see the mast, but a bit concerned because it's through some tree branches...

Exactly where is the mast near kilcullen?

As far as I know, it's the mast in Old Kilcullen, so it's actually closer to Calverstown than Kilcullen is. So long as you're not in the shadow of Carraig Hill you should be OK. It's ~3km as the crow flies from Calverstown.

You can see the mast on the right on the way to Kilcullen. Here it is on Google maps, and it's here on Comreg Siteviewer.

Yes I think see it on the right hand side going from Calverstown to kilcullen on the Athy road, Calverstown is in a quite a big hollow coming downhill from the kilcullen side, I think though we should be ok

Just got that email from imagine that I was over 75% of my allowance.. Now I'm no rocket scientist but 75% of 20gb is 15gb not the 11.7 I have used. Is this a ploy to get people to panic that they are near their limit so they ease off as imagine can't cope with the subscribed users or is their monitoring system for usage badly out of sync.. Highest I have used prior to this is 7gb with much less most days.. Still annoyed me today that the email is sent out in such a way and even more so that it is blatently wrong.. Why have they been allowed to not provide a web portal for users to see their usage.
Thankfully I have a way of monitoring all usage on my network and if you see attached I am definitely not OVER 75% of my allowance.. Pretty poor from imagine

Im sitting at 14.50 GB right now (and don't expect to get to the cap tonight) and no mail ... they seem to be pretty inconsistent with their mails then! And i'm glad I have full network monitoring too.

lol, welcome to the club! And I don't have full usage monitoring over my network...

But yeah I think this scaremongering is absolute BS. Even though I enjoy decent speeds and am about to settle with the cap, these intrusions are very unsettling to the point I'm thinking of moving away and back to my underwhelming unlimited ADSL; not as bad as many and at least no intimidation over bad wording and stupid advice of turning off system updates....

Is there a simple download manager app out there which would give reliable measuring? If imagine can't get their act together then I would rather cover it myself.

    Thanks.

You would need to measure this on the Wan port of the router

Thanks Dude.... but I have no idea what that means. Wan port is one of the connections on the router I guess but what app would I use? and how would I continually monitor it?

You can't unless you add your own device and route all traffic through it

You can try Networx. It has an option to monitor your router rather than your device.

Not without the router cooperating and giving it the WAN stats

I got one of those on my first day of installation.

No way I had used it either so I have since emailed and asked for a copy of the data usage but I never got a response.

Followed up with another email asking if there was a portal or app and apparently it's in development. I won't hold my breath.

Beginning to agree with others that it is pure scare mongering and nothing else.

Tried the factory login for the router but it didn't work so I emailed requesting this from them.

Other than that the service is pretty good at the moment and far exceeds anything I can get here.

I expect the data allowance is the total of upload and download, so don't forget that when calculating your usage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,247 ✭✭✭morgana

Yes it is - usually upload isn't that significant unless you have large cloud backups going on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,727 ✭✭✭amadablam

Also, whereby it says it resets by midnight each day. In the 'Warning' email it refers to 'any 24 hour period' so it's hard to know is the period of time midnight to midnight or something else that if you use 20 GB in any 24 hour period, they are alerted. I'm going to see if they will clarify this as its contradictory to the sales pitch, sign up spiel.

I got installed on Friday. Getting consistent speeds of 50Mbps but I'm all the time waiting for them to drop. This tgread is making me paranoud!!!

I'm happy with it so far. I've one kid that uses XBox live but apart from that we're just run of the mill users. Was thinking of getting a dreambox type of setup to replace Sky but I'm worried about the 20GB cap and how quickly that would be consumed.

Also any recommendation on a booster for the wifi signal within the house. Can barely connect from my bedroom and I like to read the newspapers from my Kindle in bed of a Saturday and Sunday morning. At the min I'm going out through the hotspot on my phone which is 4G with 3.

Was away for a few days came back late Saturday night had to reset the LTE router as I had no connection, speeds are in the crap house was only getting 4mpbs download at 22:00 pick up again after 12 midnight to 48mbps, all day Sunday speeds of about 25-48 Mbps now come to the evening time dropped down to under 5Mbps download it’s time to tell Imagine LTE to F**K off and take this sh1t away.
