It's Saturday 5th March 2016.......Best tip I can give you is that you have 3/4 weeks training to do before then so get on with it and leave the worrying until the 4th March at least :p

Can't speak for the half route FD but the 10k route is definitely .....rolling.

As FBOT told me during a recent race though, what goes up , must come down !

Beautiful part of the world to run in, lovely atmosphere in and around the start\finish area too

I've done the half in Kinvara for the last 4 year s in prep for Spring marathons
While not exactly a PB course, if the wind is light you can have a great day out. However if the wind is up prepare for a challenge.

Course is very scenic and last year (and I think the year before) were on closed roads. Though prepare for the odd stray car and sheep.

Race starts in the middle of the town with 1 lap around the town to begin. Then out into the country side with some shelter from high hedges, these are rolling miles until you turn right just before 5 miles.
Then 5 - 7 are fully in the open Burren, slightly downhill. Next right turn at 7 is into long drag (1000m) but sheltered.
Mile 8-11 are relatively fast, having turned right again at 10m. Mile 12 has a couple of nasty short sharp hills which are a nice test for tired legs. Mile 13 is fast down to the town harbour where a lovely finish line welcoming you.

There is great atmosphere around this town before hand. Last few years both races have been sell outs and I'm told this year is getting full too. Arrive 75-90 mins before hand if you want to find a parking space near the town centre.
Overall a great race with organisation top notch.

The Saturday date is also a great plus. Enjoy, I wont be there this year.

Looking forward to this, always enjoy it...
Don't be worrying about hills, that graph is very misleading...

There are no hills, repeat, there are no hills.... Just keep telling yourself that :)

Strong head wind and a nasty shower on the run in. Happy enough!

Yesterday was my first sub-2hr half marathon, was expecting sub 2:15 and hoping to target 2hrs later in the year with more training so delighted with that!

Came out of the town beside the 1:50 pacer group and was comfortable so stuck with them for the first 8km. Slowly built up a buffer. By half way I had about 5mins to play with over the 2hr average pace. Legs started to slow up then and got uncomfortable from about 12km (small cramps, stitches, blisters, rain, wind) but with a possible sub-2hr on the cards I kept an eye on the slowing pace and kept updating the maths every km. It's such a mental journey keeping positive and focused!

Came in around 1:58. The tea and cakes in the hall afterwards were just what the doctor ordered!

    Any chip times available yet?

Made an absolute mess of that race. Went out way too fast with the wind at our backs for 5 miles and really paid the price in the second half of the race with the wind and my leaden legs.

I really should have known better and pulled back earlier to a more steady pace.

Was cruising along till just after 8 miles when my hip locked up and I couldn't bend my left leg for a bit. Last 4ish miles were tough going after that, had to walk a few more times to prevent the hip locking again. Great race and can see why it's so highly regarded.

Surprised myself today. Stuck with the pacers for the headwind and pushed on at 10 miles. Felt fairly comfortable throughout. Very encouraging before Rotterdam. Enjoyed it, as always.

This went better than I could have hoped, a tough race, well organised though, went out in front of the 2hr pacers and pretty much left them for dust after the first half a mile. Beautiful scenery, pity about the wind & rain through the Burren :)

Fairly overly optimistic prediction, I think if I hadn't fecked up my strategy I would have probably managed 1:37:xx but delighted with the PB anyhow (and the net time! I was going off gun time until just now :)
