Well, yeah, taking gender into account of course there's going to be a difference! I'm surprised they didn't try to convict the 15 year old...

Twitter is going mad, not surprised... they seem to ignore the fact the girl was underage and he challenged the charge.

Then they compare the sentence to that of Pistorious- using the term murder, when he wasn't convicted of that and it was a completely different jurisdiction....

Maybe they think there is a special celebrity court with Judge Judy in charge...

Dont think this is true. Ched Evans served a lot less than 90% of his snetence. Plenty of others have served considerable less as well.

Well he earned £2m odd from when he was first arrested. Plenty of assets as well. And the girl and her family aren't seeking any monetary damages which is highly commendable.

Why should gender come into it? Should they not be looked at equally? Both using a position of trust to get what they wanted (50 times in her case).

Sure, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

"Judge saying Johnson is only entitled to 10% of credit for the early guilty pleas he entered. For the crime he pleaded not guilty to and was convicted of, he will receive no reduction or credit."

My reading in on that is that his was entitled to 10% off his sentence because of his guilty please. Therefore the 6 years would have been closer to 7 otherwise.

His actual time served will now depend on whathever way remission works in the UK. If he was here is it 25 or 33% he'd be entitled to if he "behaved himself" inside? Even at 33% that's 4 years in the clank.

Nothing to do with his sentence obviously but he also had the arrogance to mislead his employers by telling them he would plead not guilty so they would let him play so he earned a lot of money while he was awaiting trial.

That's what the judge knocked off the sentence before it was handed down. What he serves and how much time he gets off for good behaviour and other factors is only decided during the term of the sentence and ongoing reviews.

6 years seems harsh but then again he did fight the case so he took his chances, that's gonna result in an increased tariff anyway. He probably would have got 2 less if he pleaded guilty.

A huge part of this is his reaction to what he's done too though. It wasn't just "dropping the laimh for a few minutes" it was 800 messages sent over the course of 3 months - there was no impulsive reaction here, he worked hard to get what he wanted. The nature of the grooming is pretty troubling - as you said he can easily get women without all this work, so why is he going so far out of his way to get with a child?

He seems to have had no comprehension of how his actions would affect her too, lying for a year pleading complete innocence - a year in which she faced constant abuse, death threats, and being called a liar on a daily basis.

And we always have to keep in mind that she's a child, and children will always be (rightly) protected more by the law than adults, because they're far more vulnerable.

I'm glad he got 6 years, especially after hearing how he groomed her for so long, he knew what he was doing was wrong but thought he was above being caught for it.
Instead of pointing out the outlier instances of similar crimes receiving lesser sentences (and without taking into account the multitude of reasons for those sentences) I would have thought people would be happy to see justice being served fully and without prejudice in this instance.
