Over in Chicago visiting family and decided to hire a car. Got given a Camaro RS convertible. Must say, even though it's only the v6, it has a lovely bark when you put the foot down.
It's in the 30s over here and it's just lovely putting the roof down in it.

Went down to Royal Steering Wheels to get a new steering wheel for the 325Ci today, and I'm so happy, they really did a superb job on it and the feel is fantastic, and seeing 35 mpg on the (admittedly over-optimistic) OBC isn't bad for a straight six either considering that 40 of those miles since I filled it up were town driving, plus there were a few jams on the motorway on the way back!

I'm a stickler for keeping cars stock but once I saw the look of the nappa top/bottom and perforated sides I knew I was having it and seeing as I had already broken my self imposed rule of keeping it stock for the leather I decided it would be rude not to have the stitching done in M colours as well:P.

Picked up this bangernomics purchase less than two months ago, had few small bits sorted, alternator, drop links and rear bushes, and a seal in the inlet manifold, but tight as a drum with 256k miles on the clock, and a one owner car from new, with tons of receipts for work done.

Paint really lets it down with bad lacquer peel on bonnet and roof, but a much nicer place to sit than the 206 estate I used to have, seriously thought about wrapping it for the laugh, some sort of camo wrap to suit the fact it'll spend it's life parked in forest car parks when I go biking, but couldn't justify the cost.

We used to have an S40 like that, always had a soft spot for Volvos as a result, nice to see one still on the road!

Cheers, yeah once I saw a photo of it I was completely sold on it! I love the stitching most of all, it helps lift the interior as there's a bit too much black in it for my tastes.

Interestingly just going for smooth leather on all of the wheel wouldn't have been any cheaper. I also had a choice of standard leather or nappa leather, again there was no difference in price. I went for nappa top/bottom (since it wasn't any extra, although even if it was more expensive I would still have paid for it) and perforated sides.

It's £130 or about €147 (at today's exchange rates) to get an E46 wheel done (plus postage), for any boardsies in the UK Jack will fit the wheel there and then for just £15 or €17 extra, it took him about 20 minutes to do it (10 of which was me talking to him about what he does and how he does it).

People tend to post their old wheels to him, he retrims them and then posts them back. The alternative is what I did, where you go down to him and he will have a steering wheel already made up for you, he will swap over the airbag and the trim pieces from your old one to the new one and then he takes your old wheel (and will retrim that for someone else), hence the extra cost, well worth it though.

Still don't get it - an extra cost usually entails an extra cost to the manufacturer/service provider. I don't see any extra effort on their part.

Edit - actually, just thinking about this. He is doing extra work, fixing up the airbags. Is that it?

He's performing labour, you have to pay for labour. £15 for removal of the old wheel, airbag, Trims etc, refitting the new wheel and airbag/buttons/Trims takes time. He's a business.

750miles on mostly crummy backroads and boreens in 3 days and similar on the other trip, never broke into a sweat :cool:

Maybe you saw me appearing out of nowhere, maybe I appeared elsewhere, who knows

It's now finished as my daily driver for the foreseeable future, 51k miles later and many memories to go

It needs a lot of preemptive work as well as more injectors, welding and niggly bits I haven't the time to sort all at once, but over the course of the next few months will be addressed, bit by bit

Afraid to say this in case it stops shut tomorrow, but apart from routine service/tyres as per schedule, its had 2 track rod ends replaced, the crankshaft pulley replaced and the windshield washer pump replaced. That's it....

They sure are, bought for my Z and were meant to be a temporary workaround for being shafted with crap tyres but ended up being a permanent fixture...!

I had plans to get another set of 350Z wheels and have both cars with the same wheels, alas I think I'll use these ones on the Z for now

He picked it up this week so I'd wager it was the previous owners decision, but I agree with Q I'm afraid, hate yellow plates on an Irish car, looks naff. Car itself though, spot on.

Just saw it as strange as if you go across the border and yellow plates are prevalent (being the standard issue) is that grounds to remark then?

thats exactly where i bought the car from :pac: id imagine its why a lot of cars i seen up there were like that. Guards where i am are fairly spot on so i dont need to be panicking incase i get pulled over and told off... guards down here are clever enough to realize there are more important things to be keeping an eye out for on the roads so ill change them in time.

@quazzie are you saying the type of reg plate on a car is a indicator of the type of person driving it... really.. please explain to me what a yellow plate driver is and also a jap or german plate drivers just so i know what kind of maniacs are driving around using different numbers plates:rolleyes:

Never commented on the legality, just that they look naff on an Irish car.

Heck the plates on my civic aren't legal.

But yes, it does give the impression of the 'hoop it in the crossroads' bald tyres and never serviced type, particularly here in the north west.

That's hardly ****ting on the car though, car is class, if he wants yellow plates so be it, just I would go for a custom design plate instead.

So, a few weeks ago I posted about some idiot rear ending the missus in a car park, ended up not chasing him as the damage was minimal, and I couldn't justify hitting the fella for a repair when the damage was noticeable to myself more than anyone else.
In the end, I'd hate to have someone take me to the cleaners for a small lapse of concentration. Good Karma and all that right?

Well, today, another car park, another idiot, pulled out from a parking space and didn't even look, hitting the front bumper a fair whack.

I've had the civic two years, it was immaculate, and I've treated it like a baby, so it's annoying when idiots can't even open their eyes and watch their surroundings. :mad:

Needless to say, this will be getting repaired, the scuff mark by the foglight is actually a hole.

If you need a new bumber, or if a bit of work needs to go in repairing the old bumper id considee buying a new genuine bumper. On those hondas they come ready painted from the factory in the colour of your choice.

If I ever needed a new bumper, the honda dealer would be my first port of call. Better chance of getting a good one compared to the mismatched and odd ones you'd find on donedeal
