Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maybe they won't, maybe they will. I'm just pointing that there are some of them who deliberately looked for a 1.6, bought and insured.

    Each to their own. :p

The 1.4 is perfect in those cars. The 1.6 doesn't offer that much more performance and costs €129 extra to tax. Most people go for the 1.4

Perfect for what? Adequate boring A to B driving? Suits some needs but not others. Hardly true to claim its perfect. Horses for courses - personally I'd find it hell.

Perfect as in it offers the best blend of performance and economy compared to the 1.6. The 1.6 is only slightly more powerful and is not as cheap to run. If I was looking for a more powerful corolla id skip the 1.6 and go straight for a t sport. Your post is very ignorant tbh.

You've plucked my curiosity now. Where on earth are you finding ignorance in my post?

Merely because I said your sweeping claim of it being perfect was inaccurate, and while it might suit some it wouldn't suit others?

I think what John means is, the 1.4 in the e12 Corolla is perfect for those looking for a Corolla. Robust, frugal and punchy for what it is.

His and hers. Had the E36 out for cleaning and warm up over the weekend. Hard to believe that the 1er is nearly bigger than the 3er. My Volvo is in the background somewhere.

Ok so it’s not my car but after 7 years Dad traded in his trusty 159 estate for the above.

What can I say, it’s a stunning car. This model is the Giulia Veloce so 2.0 turbo 280bhp petrol. Has some nice options on it too.

Will get more photos soon - may the Alfa dream live on!!

Excellent i was wondering if Alfa Ireland would bring in the Veloce, seems to be the sweet spot of the range, beautiful car.

Quirky little cool car with some nice features that reminds me of my old Grande Punto :)
Just back from 2 weeks in the big brother of that yoke as a rental, the 500L. I sincerely hope hers is different from that in every way it’s possible for a car to be different.

Ignorance by taking my post out of context when it was plain to see what I ment by perfect, comparing it to the 1.6 which offers the same adequate a-b performance that you'd find "hell" only it will cost you more money to run.

Sure in a drag race the 1.6 will pip the 1.4 but otherwise they drive exactly the same with similar performance in real world driving and while they are no sports car I find them far from hell tbh.

Like for like id choose the 1.4 all day long due to it being cheaper to run and offering similar performance but in the op's case they got the car cheap and in circumstances like that id have no problem with the 1.6 either.

Have the Golf 1 year this week, longest car I've ever owned! Celebrated by giving it a new set of alloys to freshen the look of it, along with a polish and wax.

It's also for sale if anyone here is interested ;)

No matter how long I leave the car I've never got the reg or lights to the stage one can't see them.

Nope went for a new one.

That one is a 172 plate Alfa Ireland car and is being kept in the fleet until September 2018.

He absolutely loves it. I'm incredibly impressed with it too. For Alfa to make a car as good as it from scratch in this day and age of platform sharing is a superb achievement given their past.

Wouldn't be hard to be cooler now to be fair. He probably wouldn't want to associate with the 166man name :D

I'll get some shots of the interior this weekend. :)

    I love those wheels.

Bit of seat porn, i gave them a once over yesterday with some leather conditioner from a BMW seal and protect kit, not sure if using BMW leather cleaner on AUdi leather is cool or not :D

It’s probably not cool tossy but you’ve a better chance of the BMW cleaner working :pac:

I had been planning to sell her and buy the 2.4 version,
    but insurance says no.
So instead of posting it in bangernomics I might as well put the photos to use and post one up in here
Outside of oil services and a timing belt change when I bought it, it's only needed two tyres over the last 27k miles. As I'd been planning to sell, I fecked her in to the nct on Friday and she passed first time. Might as well keep her now :pac:

Bit of Classic motoring, just purchased this 1992 Neon Blue Design Edition 318i e30 BMW. One of 200 cars in this colour and trim. Super retro. The interior is a cloth/leather blue design and the colour is Neon Blue. There was a neon green too that is super rare. Only 62k miles all service history. Was a UK car, imported to ireland in 2004, then exported back to the UK this year where I immediately brought it back.

Needs some work, will tidy her up to good standard for our 3 nice days during the summer and a few shows. Needs some mechanicals, some trim replaced inside and out and that spoiler removed and the area repainted. The a full correction detail. Let the fun begin.

I'll never forget back in 1993 when my parents wanted to buy a 320i (not clued up on bmw but it was the saloon version of the above).
Metallic grey and it looked savage.
Went then to buy it and the fecking thing broke down so my parents cancelled the deal and bought a brand new Skoda favorit.
    What a disappointment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭James Bond Junior

That interior is just beautiful. I'm a sucker for BMW, a fool for old BMWs and a foolish sucker for blue BMWs. Get your self on bmw classic Ireland on faceache, there are always bit popping up and a great knowledge base.
