One thing I will say is the more time you spend cleaning your car the more you realise the paint is not as perfect as you thought.

Looks great. It's the perfectionist mindset. Spend enough time wanting to get everything perfect when detailing, you see everything that you can't fix. No need to worry, 99.9% of people will only see a clean, well looked after motor.

It's a good thing it's not Carbon Black then.

    Cheers mate.

Yeah I agree but there was a few marks I didn't know that were there and some others I thought I'd be able take out but I couldn't but will figure it out eventually.

Rule of thumb when polishing is that when you run your fingernail across the scartch, if it catches it's not going to come out. Another one is that if the scratch disappears when wet, it can easily be polished out.

Following on from my previous post, I've now imported the car and going through registration tomorrow. Had it inspected today for VRT, in the midst of a fleet of Tesla's over in Greenhills - apparently a very common import this year.

Obligatory photo, I'm delighted with it, but still shedding a tear for the trusty 325i next to it. Will get some proper photos over the weekend, for now some phone shots.

4 series by far the nicest looking beemers at the moment. Gorgeous and well wear.

Edit: Be interested to hear how you find the 4 cylinder to 6?

Wow, what a car, health to enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the nice words. Rubber-stamps my decision to press ahead with it and stump up the VRT! Some of my friends and colleagues think I'm mad, but cars are my thing.

Regarding the change from 6 cylinders to 4, I'm not going to lie, I miss the 6-pot and every well documented characteristic that comes with it. But to be fair to it's modern equivalent, if I park the missing silky smoothness, this engine is a worthy successor. From a power and delivery point of view, its incomparable. Together with the optional extra 8 speed sport auto box, the car just wants to accelerate. Especially in Sport+ mode with paddles only. Getting up to motorway limits is effortless, so much so, I'm struggling (without even knowing) to keep to the limits...and I'm usually a complete stickler for them (which reminds me to get the digital speedo coded in).

If anyone is looking for serious bang for buck, I'd suggest you include this on your test drive list. I had not originally due to the absence of 2 cylinders and natural aspiration, but once I got over my snobbiness, I'm delighted with the outcome.

The brakes are incredible, but that's another days story.

What's happening to the 325?? I literally just bought back one that I sold earlier this year, please tell me I didn't miss out on buying this one!

Also, the 428 is fantastic. The 4 series coupe is a great piece of kit, interior is amazing.

Thanks. Like I've said previously, at first I all but dismissed the 28i in favour of the 35i but I simply could not make that work with budget in finding a non ragged one with the specific spec I wanted. I've been almost 6 months searching I kid you not. Similar amount of time for the E92 previous to this.

It's just gone up for sale on Carzone & DoneDeal, that's a shame. I've not posted my ad up as I don't want to overstep forum rules with links etc.

Oh I know! Tried to get dealer to change them as part of the deal but non runner unfortunately.

Waiting for payday now to change them. Anyone got any recommendations?

What kind of tyre do you want? I would recommend Goodyear Eagle F1s or Pirelli P Zero, both from experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,875 ✭✭✭Foxhole Norman

I'm running Michelin PS4 on the back of mine and Kumho Ecsta Ku39 on the front that will be replaced soon with PS4's. Rate them above the F1's to be honest.

Not looking for anything in particular really, will check those ones out thanks.

Uniroyal Rainsport 3, great grip, soft, comfortable, very quite. Get them online delivered to you local tire fitter, will cost you about 110e per corner plus fitting.

Seen brand new ones on DD for sale at 360 for 4x18 and 240 for 4x17, thats really cheap.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, amazing, better than above, but at 125e er corner, for me best on the market for usual Joe.

If need something below 100e per corner Id go with Nexen Nfera SU4

Check if they are run flats and Mercedes fit them to some of their models too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,860 ✭✭✭masterboy123

My Merc dealer had put Kumho Ecsta HS51 on the fronts, they are ok but I like Michellin primacy 3 more. I believe none of them are run flats but still they are on my C class.

I would personally steer away from run flats, and Kumho and Michelins, they only look good on paper. Had both fitted in the cars before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

Kumho are actually a good tyre but they wear quite quickly in my experience.

and a bit stiff and noisy on some surfaces.

And poor mileage. Usually D or E rating for fuel consumption.

Agree with this, i've had a mixture of tyres on my ST, the stock Brigestone RE050, Kumho Ectsa KU39, Eagle F1 Asy 2 and 3, i recently put two Hankook Ventus Evo 2 on the front and i'd rate them as good if not even better that the Goodyears. The Bridestone were terrible, fronts only lasted 12k. Had Kumho Ectsa KU39 as well got 18k out of those. Goodyear were substantially better wear wise, i got 40k out of those once i rotated them, well see how the Hankooks go wear wise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,860 ✭✭✭masterboy123

I am thinking of getting Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 for rear side. Is it worth switching Kumho Ecsta to rear end and use the new Goodyear on front?
My car is rear wheel drive, C class.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,541 ✭✭✭Leonard Hofstadter

I've got a set of Asy 3s on the back of my (rear wheel drive) E46 and I'm very happy with them, they're very reasonably priced, have excellent grip and they're not too loud. I'm not sure if they're the most economical but I always reckon these things are maybe 5-10 miles on a tank at most, I'd gladly sacrifice that for grip and quietness. You should always change tyres in pairs (i.e. change both sides even if only one side needs doing).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,454 ✭✭✭Ivefoundgod

The dealer took the run flats off them and replaced with those no name ones before selling. Might try those Uniroyals, thanks for the suggestions.

they are honestly great tires, friend put them on e92 and it completely changed driving experience, quite and plenty of grip.

Well wear vintage. You’re working your way through all the 3 series models.
What’s the spec on it? Presume you bought in uk/ni?
