If it's not power pants, it's an unreal and scary coincidence how similar they are.

    Genuinely curious.

That red line going through the headlight, nice touch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,381 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

The gti front end definitely stands out the most in the range. The honeycomb and red line through the lights looks great. The R doesn't get the same treatment with the grill and the silver line is less noticeable.

Might be best to start a thread in the buying section, not sure if any posters have an A8 but there are quite a few VAG folks around that will surely have some info for you!

I was thinking the same thing, that looks damn near futuristic compared to the garages i use.

I would think they'd be saving something like that for the facelift.

You do get the twin DRLs though which I think are a nice touch.

And the indicator is an LED strip rather than a single bulb.

Yeah, was surprised to see they're completely different headlights units at £500 a corner. Mental!

I remember early press photos of the MK7 GTI had R style lights - double U DRL's, etc. They obviously decided late on to hold those back for the R. Some guys on UK forums looked into seeing whether it was possible to activate the inner DRL on the GTI but it isn't, they're completely different units... That inner lens on the GTI is just a piece of plastic, no wiring.

Said goodbye to my beloved Cupra R on Friday.

    IMG_20160131_WA0003.jpg

Replaced it with a 2014 Mini Cooper S. Will post some better shots when I get a chance to detail it.

    Interesting move,

Any reason why you preferred the Mini over the Cupra R?

Honestly wasn't really planning it at all. Felt like a change recently and was doing the usual browsing about and found the Mini. Always liked them but would only have considered a Cooper S or a JCW. After taking it for a test drive I absolutely loved it.

While it's down on power (approx. 192BHP vs 265BHP) compared to the Leon, it's nearly 300kg lighter and it's hilarious fun to drive. My insurance dropped by 100 quid a year and tax came down from 750 a year to 280 a year too.

The thing that sealed it for me though was the interior, it feels like a much more premium car over the Leon. Even though I adored the Leon especially the engine, the Mini is just a much nicer car to spend time in. I'll definitely miss the Leon though, very sad looking at it for sale online at the moment!

edit - also on the test drive, loved the Mini's exhaust. In sport mode, it farts like an old cow it's hilarious. The gearbox has a rev match system too so when you change down it blips the throttle and sounds fantastic.

Those wheels/tyres combo look really chunky (in a good way) and solid (particularly in the 3rd pic).

Ya, Cheers! went for Alloys as they are 14". same size as the standard rims. As I wanted to hold onto the tyres.. Roads are bad with pot holes as well, so that large side wall should prevent any punchers hopefully..
